Peter and Diane, you don't have to thank me. I am your sister and I love you. It was such a helpless feeling when I saw you in Roanoke in late August. I am overwhelmed with joy at how far everyone has progressed. Although I don't live nearby, you are all in my thoughts every day and I wish I could do more. Please know that I am here for you if you need my help. Love, Gillian
Cowdery's - You thank you note was so nice. You are all so welcome. I think probably all wish they could do more for you. Most probably all feel helpless as to what can be done for you and all are helping any way they can. Wish we could take your pain away and do it for you. Unfortunately we can't, your healing comes from within yourselves, you guys are all so strong and have progressed so far. You've got such a loving family and alot of caring friends/community. It's so nice to see others helping in a time of need and that people on a whole really do care. Keep up the great work that you have been doing. We wish you all the Best! You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless
Dear Peter, Diane, David and Lisa, We are so happy that you are all doing so much better! It was great to see Diane and David at the pig roast! (Sorry we missed you Peter!) To all the Cowderys - I have followed your progress on this web site from the beginning. It was so sad to see what had happened to one of "our" families. Now it is great news that you have put that behind you and are going forward and healing more and more every day. I remember David and Lisa from the day they were registared for school at Sherman. That cute little red head that used to come into the office! Before you know it both of you will be back to school with your friends. God Bless! Mrs. Winters

I just wanted to add how much I have always enjoyed both Lisa and David when I worked with them at RHSACCP. I will always remember Lisa's beautiful smile and how much she was always there to help me if I needed her. She may not have realized how much this meant to me. David was always alot of fun to have around always making me think of another activity just to keep him and Jacob from getting into trouble. Diane you have always been someone I enjoy talking to as were your parents. Although I only had an occasional passing with Peter, I enjoyed our conversations and am glad to get the opportunity to meet your parents. Our family wishes your entire family the best and continue to look forward to seeing you all together real soon! Anne Jonathan

Ok- I'm done!!! Cinderella.......
The Power Of Prayer; There were many happenings related to prayer that the family would like to share with all who have been so faithful and supportive.First a lighter side. The first week in the(ICU)Intensive Care Unit,in Roanoke was critical. The family requested the presence of a priest.Father Tom Mattingly promptly responded and led the family in prayer at each bedside. The last visit was to Peter who was in a deep sleep. With the Priests hand on Peters head and leading the family in prayer Peter suddenly awoke and with a startled look asked, Did something happen I don't know of. Where am I? Father Tom answered, I can assure you that you are not in Hell, at which we all laughed and realized that was our first humerous moment since the accident. David was in Coma for over a week. His attending nurse said a prayer for him every time she entered his room. One afternoon while in the room she heard this voice say, I want my mom. David had come out of Coma. After coming out of Coma the following week Diane was placed in the room with David. She tried desperately to communicate. With a pad and pencil she wrote one note repeatedly but we were unable to decipher it. Her hearing impaired sister visited and by finger spelling asked Diane what she was writing. Diane was able to respond somewhat by finger spelling, asking where Lisa was,and was she OK. Our prayers were answered as we then knew her thinking process was intact. Lisa was in critical condition for some time. Family was allowed visiting rights around the clock. One early AM on entering the ICU we found the nurses and staff out side Lisas room. Some were in tears and some were praying. We were advised that Lisa was at her lowest point. A new antibiotic recently developed for the severe infection she had was given to her and she pulled thru. Lisa tho stable continued in Coma. Near the end of her third week she began to open her eyes but only for a brief moment. A few days later her grandfather while at her bedside praying the Rosary, the early morning sunlight entered the room through an opening of the drapery closed window. On looking up he saw that Lisa had turned her head and with both eyes opened was staring at him between the bed railing. She was out of Coma. The family received pledges of prayer from seven denominations and as far away as California and Texas. One moving letter offering support was from someone who professed to being an Athiest. One special letter was from a very young girl who sent her letter addressed to the Tooth Fairy. The letter along with her tooth was in a plastic baggie. In the letter, she printed that her wish was for her sisters friends that were hurt would be OK. She did get an answer from the Tooth fairy we hear. Miracles do happen. The first person to reach the accident was a West Va. State Trooper returning from vacation. Within fifteen minutes we were told he had emergency help at the scene. With out that and the prompt evacuation of the injured by Helicopter to the Roanoke Trauma Center near 200 miles away we were told they may not have survived. We have heard from several travelers who were at the scene of the accident that many who had offered help stood by and prayed through-out the rescue. As we were reminded time after time, KEEP PRAYING DON"T EVER GIVE UP.
I'm so sorry to hear the wesite is ending, the daily checks on the family will be missed. But this means the family is on its way to a full recovery and you can't beat that! You know I will do anything for you and your family. I will be there for you always. You stay strong and lean on me when you need to. You are a GREAT mother and your kids are reflected in that.
