OUR HUMBLE BEGINNING... Chicken Surprise founder, Judy-Lynn Decena, an Operations Manager of one of the food companies in Quezon City, decided to take the space once rented by the company she works with at Star City. She got the space on year 2000 where she intend to put up TINAPAY, atbp thinking that the concept fwould eventually succeed because of lack of bakeshop in the food court. Sure it was a success, but due to some projects that were being prioritized in the company where she works with, they decided not to take the space on summer 2000 at Star City. She then thought of getting the space but had some thoughts on how things will be since she’s still working. But this opportunity, she’ll never give up! She discussed things with her auntie and ask her to take the space while waiting for their visa from Canada. She arranged the contract with Star City. She went through a series of interview. They want something unique. Something that can be acceptable to all market levels. These things Judy and husband Alvin keep on discussing after their office. Judy then thought of something that is not complicated because she thought of managing the store inspite of her hectic schedule at work. At work, as an operations manager, one of her regular schedules is to meet a lot of suppliers and sometimes have some petty chit chats with them. In one of her meetings, there is one word from her supplier that stick to her mind “ filipinos love chickens very much”. With these in mind, she started conceptualizing her store. Not complicated! Yes, it’s roasted chicken! She immediately discussed the whole plan with her husband. In less than 1 hour, everything is in paper already! The menu, the recipe,the budget and the manpower requirement! Among all, it is the budget that is quite a problem. Half a million should be in placed. Alvin then decided to talk to his close friends at the office to be their partners. Elwin Ortizano and Nilo Panes agreed to be co- investors of the business. The following day, Judy presented CHICKEN SURPRISE at Star City. The space was then awarded to her because of her unique concept. Soon after, Judy started her research and development of products which she intends to sell at her baby store in star city. Meetings…… recipe formulation……….marketing strategies. Everyone is so excited! Food testing, what’s the best recipe for chicken? Everyone voted for something that is STANDARD. They cant afford to offer a recipe that changes from time to time. Star City crowd is tremendous! They want their chicken to be tasteful but not complicated. No brushing of sauces, not stuffed! The gravy was a great partner for the chicken recipe. It was formulated by Judy herself. SEPTEMBER 14,2001 – the birth of CHICKEN SURPRISE in STAR CITY. The opening day is very rewarding! Sleepless nights for Alvin, Bebot and Nilo soon became a fulfilled dream! And Judy is always behind them…..
