Sir madam Warrior - PG-13 - English - Romance/Fantasy - 2 chapters so far

Prologue

You all know this planet of being a planet called Earth. Earth; it?s a place of life, a place of pain, a place of joy and a place of death. As our life begins, we as people come across many paths and environments that make us who we are. Of course we are always also driven by our nature of life. Our natures and our environments always will at some point clash and you?ll get a muddled mixture of both. Even though they will mix together, most of you will find that when you are with people, when you?re in someone else?s presence, environment takes over; your own built up personality. And then when you?re by yourself, or with someone you really care about, be it a loved one, family or friend, you let nature take over. You become the you, you were born to be. How people see you affect you as a person, whether they see what you want them to see or not. Very rarely you?ll see someone that only has nature as a personality, unaffected by how people see them. Before you can condemn anyone of being bad, or evil for that matter, make sure that you get a look at their nature; more often then not people aren?t born evil, it?s how they grow up. Babies aren?t born with pure greed, and that?s what evil is in lamest terms. Wanting things and getting them no matter what the cost is, be it fraud, lies or a life. It?s greed at such a level that nothing matters as long as life goes your way, and your way only.

-Sometimes you?ll have to take a really hard look at them, and it may even take years to unravel what they were growing up learning to see the true them. What you learn young sticks, and that?s the hardest part to unravel, you?ll believe anyone at that age unless someone tells you otherwise, why?- you wouldn?t know enough about the world to question them as being wrong, or them to be lying. Ages one to five are the most crucial years for them to learn. Just think about it, someone that young learns a language just by hearing it around them; while when you?re older, you have to be taught.

In the end though, when we leave this world, where do we go? Every person has their own idea. Let it be to go to the heavens, be reborn or to nothingness.

Well in this world, the world this story takes place, the same follows. This is a world called Sperse. Sperse is a place very much like Earth. It revolves around the sun and has one moon. It is the third planet from the sun, but there are thirteen planets in all instead of nine. They word for sun and moon is different for them, but because you don?t know the languages Sper, Valtran or Kul (neither do I really for that matter), it will be written in the Earth language English.

Sperse is a place of magic. There was once a very powerful magic that covered Sperse, it was an ancient magic that is now forgotten by everyone but an exceptional few. The ancient magic was there in the time period known as sorrow. Sorrow was a period where all there was, fighting, pain and fear. People of modern times didn?t know they were all fighting to gain more ancient magic, all they knew was it was a dark time.

As the ancient magic was thrown back and forth between enemies, a sorcerer of great power, strength, compassion and kindness came forth. He didn?t have too much longer to live; the battles had made him weary; he could no longer defend himself against the sorcerers who were blinded by greed. Using all of his magic he locked away the ancient magic that was taking its toll on the land. When his spell had been unleashed, the remaining sorcerers and sorceresses shrieked in rage as their power had been stripped from them. Revenge was all they knew; and the knowledge that whoever destroyed him would get their power back just made it all the more convenient.

The sorcerer could do nothing but flee with all his magic gone in the spell. He could not allow any of them to get their magic back. He traveled to a temple made of stone that lay deep in the forest. His mothers? family lived in a village nearby ? his mother was organizing defenses for the village while being the voice of peace and security as well- , and they wouldn?t think he would go to such an obvious place. At this point they knew he carried a magic item like no other, and overcome by greed once more, they sought to be the owner of it. He luckily was able to hide it by an ocean close by. Even with his magic gone, there were a couple things that could never leave him, his glimpses into the future, and the ability to sense things.

One morning while in the ancient temple, he could tell, like a sixth sense, that they were all on their way to claim revenge. He had a glimpse of the future the night before and had an idea of what to do; this knowledge just confirmed what he was to do. Digging in himself he took a handful of his life force. Since it was his life that would unleash the ancient power, it was his life force that could alter it. With his life force he guided the power into something like a secret room in a dimension he created. It would take great power to open it, only one way to open it. On the stone wall of the temple he inscribed two paragraphs in an ancient tongue. He had already completed one part of the inscription; only one thing was left to make the second paragraph true. The dark ones were to arrive soon, so without any second thoughts, he reached within himself once more; and with his remaining life force he cast his final spell. Staggering into a corner, he could feel his life draining from him and into a spell. It was like losing blood from a wound so numb you couldn?t feel any pain, only life fleeting through some coursing channel. And where he fell was where a hole (that anyone who saw it would swear it went to the center of the Sperse and beyond) appeared. The hole was ten feet in diameter, and would surely kill anyone if they were to tumble in. The only thing that could activate his second spell was something more powerful then the ancient magic.

Now there are only two things that have anything of the ancient magic. The first spell he had cast with his life force and the almost long forgotten magical item that he had hidden. What he saw in the small glimpses of the future he did have remained a secret he took with him to the grave, if dark ones were to find out, the world would be in great peril.

And with this story, you may figure out what was seen by this sorcerer. And further in the story (if you haven?t already guessed) you will find out the given name of the sorcerer that nobly gave up everything he had so there could be peace on Sperse.

It?s the battle or Sorrow that lead to the story today. It is only that battle that has ended; the war is still brewing on at such patience, waiting for the right moment to leap back into full frontal assault. It?s like a gryphon lurking stealthily towards its prey; deadly, clever and with enough force to send its victim into pure panic a moment to late, and so early it doesn?t know what hit them.

When Sorrow ended, the victims of the war, the people, they began to build, grow and prosper. Lands were founded, and life once more continued. The fact that it was a time no one would want to recall, it was slowly masked out of existence to the people. Among the lands founded was a place called Kulner and a place called Valtran. And it is 415 AF (after the founding) of Kulner and 412 AF of Valtran does this story take place. And in the end, it is a time period that will be known as Hope. The question is, at what cost does the hope come, hope for who; greed or unselfishness, and is it really worth all the pain; and it in general? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sir Madam Warrior

Chapter One, Awaken the Mare of Night

"Illusion, Shield, Fly, Fiery, Windy, Mirror, Lock, Maze, Create, Voice, Flower." Read the 18-year-old girl quietly to herself.

Her emerald green eyes scanned each one of the pink cards. She?s had these 11 cards that bare her name since she could remember. That didn?t say much though. Her memory before the age of 10 draws to a blank. These cards were her good luck charms. She lived with her father and brother, by a small village in the woods. She lived in one of the finest forests of Valstra. She was just finishing up with her sword practice. Females are never to fight, but her brother and father fear for her safety. Sakura was an amazing fighter, yet had a kind and gentle heart like her mother.

Sakura was heading into her house about to start cooking dinner. She put her sword away. She put it in a small ditch, under a loose floorboard in her room. She had to hide any weapons she owned, so prying eyes wouldn?t find out that she fought. She then started to cook the meal, first cutting up vegetables.

This happened everyday. By the time she got up her father and brother would already be off to work in the village. She would spend her day managing the house and training. No one taught her how to fight. Touya simply came home one day and tossed her a book. Sakura looked down at the book and saw that it taught the basics for weapon fighting and martial arts.

"I won?t always be around to protect you? like what happened when you were ten. It?s not a females place to fight, but I almost lost you once, I won?t chance it one more time. And even though I won?t always be around, it doesn?t mean that I don?t care for you. You need something to do, and I want you to be safe? Kaiju." He had said while leaving the room. He smiled saying the last word, a name he called his kid sister. Sakura smiled touched to know that her Oni-san cared so much for her. Then she remembered what he had called her and pouted.

This all happened when she was 11. After she mastered the basics, which surprisingly only took a year, she started her own technique. No one knew this technique, for it was her own. She could use other weapons, but her specialty was the sword, even if it wasn?t her favorite. She only had a sword. The other weapons she had were ones carved out of wood. Because of the weapon issue, that is why she was best at sword. Despite not having any friends, Sakura was very happy. She had a family, and she was thankful for that. There was only one thing she really wished; that she knew her mother. She only knew what she was like through Touya and her father.

Sakura stared at the painted portrait of her family on the wall. Her mother died when she was ten. Sakura sighed. Every time she looked at the painting she would sigh sadly. When she was just finishing up dinner, the door opened.

"Hey, Kaiju. What did you do today?" asked her brother as he walked into the house.

"I am not a Kaiju." Sakura yelled hotly, before walking over and stomping on Touya?s foot.

Touya winced slightly and glared at Sakura at full force; while she just stared back blinking innocently. Fujitaka then walked into the scene. Putting two and two together, he figured out what happened to cause this scene. He started to laugh at his children?s childish actions.

"Come on you two, the food will get cold. And Touya, you?d probably get less foot problems if you stopped calling your sister names. Well come on, sit down.? He spoke taking his usual spot at the table, right by the window. ?By the way Sakura, how?s your training going?" spoke her father, smiling.

"It?s going great father." She replied, setting the final dishes on the table. She then joined the table and sat.

"You better watch it though father. I bet she can beat any guy for miles in every direction. Soon we?ll hear rumors of a girl beating up trained fighters and we?ll all know where to look."

"TOUYA!? The green eyed girl yelled.

"Touya stop teasing Sakura. That is if you want your feet in walking condition. Sakura, you shouldn?t listen to your brother.? After his brief and something less then light scorning, a pleasant smile appeared on his face. ?And also I got you something, Sakura"

"You did? You didn?t have to do that." replied Sakura.

"Well, all of the weapons, except for the sword, are made of wood. The sword may be your specialty, but I know it?s not your favorite." He started to pull something out of his pocket that was wrapped in paper. He handed it to Sakura. "By giving you these I?m sure your favorite weapon will be your new specialty.

Sakura?s eyes sparkled in delight, figuring out what he got her. She always used fake wooden ones, but now she would have real ones. She opened up the paper to reveal glistening metal. Each of the six blades was sharp and both had a nicely furnished black handle. Each handle had ?Sakura? inscribed on it in gold. They looked very expensive.

"Thank you very much papa. These sai must of cost a lot though. And how did you get any with Sakura on it. The only way I could think of is the monthly collection but those cost too much." She said while admiring the sai.

"Actually it is part of the month collection. I?ve had more then enough money for awhile to buy you the sai, but I wanted the best for you. I was lucky that April has cherry blossom on it. Not many men would want a flower on their weapon. It was the only one left." he said while smiling, glad at seeing her so happy.

Sakura gasped. "So it is from the month collection. They cost so much. They?re one of a kind. Each month has it? own special quality and something written on it. Four types of weapons, sword, sai, dagger and the axe head (the wooden sticks with those hammer blade like things on top that look really fancy). So it has the same quality as my sword then."

"Yes, made out of a special metal. Harder then diamond."

Each of the four weapons has a monthly set. And only one set per weapon. There are four different weapon types to symbolize the four seasons in a year. They were crafted in the Li kingdom, way over in China. The Li family is said to own all the weapons of a certain month. That month?s quality is supposed to be magic.

?Still you shouldn?t have. I would have been fine with old cheep ones and you didn?t even have to bother with giving me any in the first place. I now have two of the collection, and that?s more then practically anyone has.? she spoke looking at him.

?True, but I bet - no, I know that you could beat them. You?re the most skilled fighter I know, you deserve the best equipment. And I?m not saying this because you?re my daughter, I?m saying this because it is the utmost truth.? he said proudly knowing his daughters achievements. His lips curved into a playful smile. ?You should really teach Touya a bit though. Because of the weapons and the book, villagers are going to think Touya fights.?

Sakura giggled. ?Well I?m going to go to bed now. I?ve had a tiring day. Thank you again Papa. Good Night. ?Spoke Sakura just before leaving the table. She then was heading off to her room.

Fujitaka smiled watching his daughter run off. He then turned his head to face Touya. He stayed silent for a moment before finally taking a breath to speak ?You really should tell her that you paid for most of it Touya.?

He shook his head slightly side to side making his hair sway slightly ?She doesn?t need to know. As long as she?s happy, and has a way to protect herself, I?m fine.? he said as a slight smile played its way on his lips.

?You really care for her, yet you never show it.? He smiled ?just don?t get too protective.? He looked out the window and into the dark night. ?It?s getting late. I guess I better hit the bed too. Good night.? He spoke and then left for his room in the back of the house.

Touya cleaned up and stayed up for a very long time. He had a bad feeling awhile ago. He had ignored the constant nagging thinking that he was just thinking things and it would disappear. Except slowly for the past few weeks it?s been putting up a more persuasive argument. He was afraid for what may come, or what?s going to happen, and whether or not people he cared about were going to get hurt. He has had to already give up the person he loves most for many reasons. He wasn?t going to loose his sister too.

He walked into Sakura?s room to find his sister lying peacefully on her bed with her eyes shut. He stood in the doorway and just gazed at her. ?I?ll protect you Sakura in anyway I can. Even if it means my own life, I?ll protect you from any harm.? He than gave a light chuckle. ?It?s funny how I can only say things you?d like to hear when you?re not conscious.? His face then turned to the determined face it was before. ?I promise I?ll do anything within my ability to keep you safe.? his face turned grave just before he was about to leave. ?I just hope my ability is enough? he shut the door and headed off towards his own room.

Sakura?s eyes snapped open to her rooms? darkness. What Touya didn?t know is that she was having some trouble sleeping and was awake for that whole little speech Touya gave. She wondered what would make Touya come in her room to say that to her. It sounded more like a promise to him than a promise for her. She pondered what had happened till darkness started to cloud around her eyes as sleep took her over. What she didn?t know was that sleep wouldn?t be easy. The moonlight that shone on her face through the window slowly disappeared, as the dark black clouds covered the full moon that night. In the dark she began to twist and turn. Her eyebrows knitted together with sweat pouring down her face. She whimpered slightly from whatever appeared in her dream.

Sakura stood alone. She didn?t know where she was; for she couldn?t even see a foot in front of her face- because of all the black and grey fog that thickly surrounded her. The place?s feel of familiarities bit into her for some inflaming reason that she didn?t know. The presence struck her like a fast blow to the head; it felt somewhat comforting and friendly, but then again held the feel of loss and heart wrenching pain.

The thundering noise of a large bang was then suddenly heard from the depth of fog, it then echoed back into an eerie and empty quietness. It was a noise of something large being knocked down without any mercy. Not of something just simply falling, but something getting flung hard into the ground, tossed to the side like a loose thread.

?Where is it.? a loud and powerful male voice boomed, shattering the eerie silence that had been cast. The voice was hard, frostbitten, and shook Sakura to her very bones.

?Where is what?? called out a timid and kind voice from the depth of the fog.

?That voice is so familiar, but from where.? whispered Sakura to herself. She shivered slightly as the fog seemed to have a cold and disturbing presence.

?Don?t play games with me woman. I have magic.? the voice bellowed ?don?t think that I can?t sense it. Never mind, I?ll get it for myself.? the voice came harsh and cold like ice.

?It doesn?t belong to you.? spoke the woman bravely and defiantly. Sakura heard her say something else. It came out as a whisper, but she managed to scrape out what she had said. It sounded as if she was talking to someone. ?Hurry! Get it and go. I?ll hold him off as long as I can.? is what she whispered urgently to whoever was there. There seemed to be a pause then you could suddenly hear the noise of small footsteps moving at a fast pace. There was a large smack noise that came from the darkness shortly after. A thump followed that noise. Sakura crossed her arms tightly over her chest from the fear that was spreading like a virus, invading sector of her body. Her teeth began to chatter as the air temperature seemed to be dropping drastically over the past few moments. And still continues to drop.

?Oh no you don?t, girly.? came the dark male voice once more. ?On second thought,? His voice held a twisted sincerity ?if you want to leave so badly, allow me to help you.? Out of no where, through the fog, Sakura could see an almost blinding (probably would be blinding it there was no fog) light, that lasted for only a fraction of a second. That light itself made Sakura uncomfortable, but what really got her heart pumping blood of fear was the scream the woman cried. The scream held so much agony it was painful to her ears. Sakura could only listen to the sound of the woman slumping to the ground in a heap of uncontrollable sobs.

?No? whispered Sakura to herself so very softly. She shook her head slightly side to side in emotional pain to what was going on.

?Now it?s your turn woman.? he spat. ?You know though, you?re really attractive. Looks beyond all the other pretty ones I?ve seen. And green eyes, quite rare. Then again your daughter has those exact eyes, eyes of rarity and that of beauty. But still holds that trace of defiance that makes you different from the others. Normally if I see that type flippant arrogance towards authority? they?d be disposed of before they have enough time to make a sound, let alone a scream. None the less, you are a quite remarkable sight. If you?ll surrender yourself to me, I?ll reconsider killing you. That is of course, you give me the item as well.? His voice was a sickening voice that made Sakura want to retch. You could hear a noise of spitting, and a spit of disgust at that, followed by a growl right after. ?That wasn?t smart. I guess you have a death wish.? he spoke in annoyance that he wasn?t going to have any real fun today.

?You may be bigger and stronger then me, you may have more authority then me and you may have the power to take whatever you want.? her voice was low, glacial and bitter. You could hear that she was doing her best to hold back the tears that threatened to spill. ?but? she began, raising her voice slightly with every coming word ?I would rather die a thousand deaths before I surrender to the likes of you? you, you cold blooded murderer.? she screamed at him with such rage that she couldn?t hold it back. You could hear her take a deep breath before she returned to speak in the bitter voice she had before. ?With every innocence life you take, they leave a mark. It can not be seen, and it can not be noticed by the naked eye. But it?s there. You can never wash it off. It is there till the day your soul leaves for another world, and it is still there for the heavens to pass judgment upon you. It resembles blood of the innocence. And if I were to see the marks on you, I?m sure you?d be dripping in it for all the monstrous things you have done.?

After her heart filled speech the man seemed for the most bored from his tone of voice ?Oh I?m sorry. I wasn?t really listening. But I did hear the first part. And sorry again because you won?t get any more chances at life, so you?ll have to settle for only one death. Say good bye to your body though, ?because you aren?t ever going to be one with it ever again.?

?I?m sorry my family that I was not stronger. Forgive me? agony and guilt radiated from her voice.

?No? spoke Sakura a bit louder, shaking her head disbelieving it. ?Make it stop. Please. Make it stop. PLEASE? MAKE IT STOP!? She cried out in anguish. The pain and guilt in the woman?s voice was too unbearable for Sakura to listen to without shedding a salty, glistening tear. She covered her ears, pressing her hands as hard as she could against the sides of her head, in hopes of blocking out the sorrow that surrounded her. Even with her freezing hands pressed against her ears; it wouldn?t be enough to block out what came next, nothing ever could. An ear piercing scream was heard, as the nearly blinding flash appeared through the fog once more. The scream was one that would haunt her for the rest of her life.?Please. Stop it.? Sakura cried quietly now slumping to the ground. Her hands dropped to her side with no life of their own. She could do nothing but kneel there and listen to what was going on. She could do nothing but hyperventilate the air that felt like icicles being shoved down her throat. The air was an everlasting of the coldest winter, and yet she still had enough mind left to wonder why the cold sweat rolling off her face and spine hadn?t frozen over.

The flash was over and you could hear the subtle thump of the woman?s dead body hitting the now seemingly darkened, cold ground; from what Sakura guessed was a kneeling position. The position where she showed her last bit of bravery, the position where she kept her pride no matter what the temptations were and the position where her words would hit someone as hard as a blade would through the chest and plunged into the heart, regardless if they listened or not? but if only they had a heart in which the words could pierce.

Footsteps were heard as the killer began to move around. They soon came to an abrupt halt.

?Here it is. They will be pleased. Except? They won?t be happy how I got it. But, after all, who says they have to know. These petty females though, should?ve known better then to defy me.? He began to laugh to himself, a harsh cold laugh. That laugh made Sakura?s stomach churn and want to turn over. Tears streamed from her eyes one after the other for the woman and child.

Sakura sat up like a bullet swimming in sweat. The blankets were damp from her perspiration. She sat there panting for awhile, recovering from the mare of the night? visit. Her heart was pounding madly within her chest. She then squint her eyes slightly as the bright suns rays shone on her emerald pools. The sun was shining brightly, almost mockingly through the pine window in the wall. Mocking in a way, that while she had a darkened dream that would work up the fear of a saint, the world was a glorious and happy go lucky place regardless if she even died that night, rather then being scared beyond her wildest dreams. She slowly swung her feet over the edge of the bed and stood up. The morning air felt cool on her dampened skin. She ran her fingers through her hair and sighed. That dream of hers really worked her up emotionally.

?Okay, just calm down Sakura.? she said quietly to herself. ?It was only a dream. And you didn?t even see anything, so don?t overreact.? She started to make breakfast and finish some chores once her heart stopped pounding frantically in her chest. She decided it was best if she just forgot the dream. Her brother and father had already left, and after her chores were done she could begin to work with her sai.

Over the next few weeks Sakura worked with her sai. And if possible, she improved enough to overpower her sword abilities. She worked very hard with the sai. The reason she worked so much harder then she usually does, is because she wanted to keep her mind off the dream. The dream never came again, and she managed to quit thinking about it, so her memories of it were pushed to the back of her mind, exactly where she wanted it. The dream itself felt very realistic, and she didn?t ever want to feel the pain that occurred that night.
