Merle Haggard
Working Man's Journey CD-May 29, 2007
"This working man's journey began severl decades back in Bakersfield, California. And before long, Merle Haggard and his music were making their way across the country. In fact, he's crossed paths with Cracker Barrel quite a few times along the way. After all, we've been on the road since 1969. That's why we're proud to bring you this exclusive CD featuring both old and new blue-collar ballads from the poet of the common man."
Merle is in fine form on this recording. His "C'mon Sixty-Five" penned by Jackson Leap is an instant classic! This track speaks of a man longing to retire, yet he's afraid he'll never make it to age 65. "Stormy New Orleans" is a tribute of sorts to the hurricane Katrina victims in the New Orleans area.
In my opinion these are the best recordings by Merle since "The Peer Sessions" recorded between 1996-99.
