Same Train, A Different Time: Merle Haggard Sings The Great Songs Of Jimmie Rodgers
1969
Merle Haggard
This album was originally released in 1969 consisting of 20 tracks. There are 5 narration tracks included within the 20.

It has been re-released twice since. First in 1993 by Bear Family© (Germany). This CD consists of the original 20 tracks. The 5 narration tracks are listed individually making 25 total. Add 4 bonus tracks and you have 29 altogether. Three of bonus tracks were released on two albums:
Track #1 entitled "Jimmie The Kid" was previously unreleased from the original 1969 sessions.

The second re-release was in 1995 by Koch Records©. This CD consists of the original 20 tracks plus the 5 narration tracks listed individually. The order of the tracks on this CD are identical to the original LP.

The Bear Family© release is the best deal by far due to its extensive coverage.

Same Train, Different Time--Capitol Records© LP (1969)

Here we have Merle's tribute to the Great Jimmie Rodgers. The tracks included here are produced and mastered very well. Unfortunately, many of the songs sound the same making the album as a whole difficult to sit through.

With that said, Merle's voice is superb on all 29 tracks! The Strangers are at the top of their game as well.
