Collectively this recording falls flat on the ears. Merle only penned 3 of the tracks here, giving this album a 'pieced together' feel.

With that said, one of the most treasured songs of all time is included here entitled "Today I Started Loving You Again". It was released as a 'B' side on a 45, but would go on to be one of the most recorded songs in Country Music history!

Merle told the story of how this song was inspired many times. He says he and his then wife Bonnie Owens were in a hotel somewhere on the road while on tour. He asked Bonnie to go out and get some sandwiches while he stayed in the room. Somewhere along the way, before this day, he told Bonnie "you know today I started living you again".

Using this line as inspiration, Merle penned the entire song while Bonnie was out getting food. He sang it for her when she arrived back at the hotel and said that she cried. Merle said; "because it made you cry, I'm gonna give you half of the song (royalties). "

Later Haggard would jokingly tell the story adding..."and then...and then we got a divorce!" During his show in 1999 (For The Record Pay Per View) he mentions the story again. Bonnie laughs, and Merle says "you don't want to tell them about the other half of the song you got?".
