This is definitely a 'traditional' duet album where each performer shares approx 50% of the vocal duties. Merle & Bonnie would never do another duet album again. Instead, they would create a technique whereby the harmony/backing vocals would not overlay the entire chorus, rather to have accents on certain words. To my recollection no one did it before them, making them pioneers in this particular sense. Bonnie would come in just at the right moment and fade away leaving a much cleaner and crisp listening experience. This was a formula they would use for over 40 years! We would have to wait until Merle's next release "Branded Man" to hear this revolutionary formula put into place. Sadly Bonnie passed away on April 24, 2006 at the age of 76. I cannot find an official website for Bonnie, but here's what Wikipedia has on Bonnie. The opinions above are solely those of Sound_man73. If you're like me you'll collect the music either way :) Be sure to check out Merle Haggard's Official Site! |
