What is SIDS?- SIDS stands for sudden infant death syndrom. This is a condition when infants for no known reason stop breathing, usually during their sleep, and end up dying. Ways to reduce risk of SIDS: 1.) Do not allow smoke around your baby 2.) Put baby to sleep on back or side, not on stomach 3.) Give the baby a safe sleeping enviroment 4.) Breastfeeding How prevelent is SIDS?- SIDS is the leading cause of death in infants between 1 month and 1 year. However since the American Academy of Pediatrics announced that infants should sleep on their back in 1992, the amount of deaths due to SIDS has declined.
