'Idol's' double whammy riles Rickey Smith fans

04/11/2003 By DARLA ATLAS / The Dallas Morning News The ouster of American Idol contestant and Texas resident Rickey Smith on Wednesday night's live show has stirred up yet another controversy. After contestant Corey Clark was booted because of an arrest for allegedly assaulting his sister (that's AI Scandal No. 467, for those keeping score at home), the show decided not to give anyone the ax on April 2, instead combining viewers' votes for two weeks. Getting the shortest end of stick on Wednesday were the two remaining Texans, Mr. Smith and Kimberly Caldwell. Some fans aren't taking the results lightly. One message-board writer summed it up this way: "Just knowing that it's not fair takes away all the fun. Guess I'll switch to Star Search."
