    30/07/01 Mariah Denies Janet Rivarly!

R&B diva Mariah Carey has been speaking exclusively to worldpop about the alleged rivalry between herself and fellow Virgin record label star, Janet Jackson.

Janet Jackson was said to be furious when Mariah clinched an unprecedented $20 million per album deal with Virgin Records, apparently claiming she felt she was being sidelined while the label paid more attention, and money, to Mariah. However, Mariah Carey has refuted suggestions that the pair now have a bitter rivalry.

'I don't think it exists,' she told worldpop. 'I'm a fan of Janet Jackson's first of all. I can't imagine someone who's achieved what she's achieved being jealous of me. Every time I see her I introduce myself like she won't even know who I am! I watched her videos when no one even knew who I was, I didn't even have an album out, I was still in school. She's an icon. I'm sure she's not worrying about what I'm doing. And we're totally different artists so I don't see that as anything. I think that's just somebody trying to spread a rumour.' [...]

They may be the biggest girl group in the world but Destiny's Child insist they're just normal girls and that they still get starstruck! In worldpop's video exclusive, they fill us in on their new single, their Christmas album and solo projects. Can you handle it? Just click on the links below. [...]

Worldpop: How does it feel when people like Janet Jackson say they admire you?

Kelly: You see that big grin on all of our faces! We love Janet, she is truly an incredible artist. That's a compliment.

Beyonce: It's very strange. It makes you feel weird. You do get starstruck when you see people like Janet. Sometimes you meet people you like and it's disappointing but you meet people like Janet and they make you feel really excited. Actually we met Michael Jackson doing a show. I looked to my right, he was standing right there on the side of the stage. I had to put the mic down and start screaming and the audience was totally confused! We got so starstruck, we hugged him on stage.

Kelly: And we didn't want to let go!

24/07/01 112 Mention Janet In Interview

As thousands of fans gather to see Janet Jackson at Kemper Arena on Saturday, many may wonder about the four guys who open for her.

For the last five years, Slim, Mike, Q and Daron have been "the gentlemen of Bad Boy," Bad Boy being P-Diddy's -- a.k.a. Sean "Puffy" Combs -- empire. In fact, these Atlantans are the only Bad Boy project to stay consistent -- to release a third CD and to sell more with each release.

Wednesday afternoon Michael Keith took a break from knee-stressing choreography to call The Star and talk about what keeps 112 climbing the charts. [...]

How does it feel to be a part of the Janet Jackson tour?

This is the biggest thing to ever happen to 112. I have never seen so much organization and preparation. This tour allows us to be exposed to a much bigger audience, and we have already surpassed our previous record sales just from the tour.

It feels good. C'mon, Janet Jackson is one of the biggest divas. Usher and 'N Sync opened for her, and just look at them now. God is going to continuously bless us. [...]

22/07/01 Jimmy Jam's Kids Put On Show For Janet

Singing sensations godson and his siblings have some fun backstage...
Janet Jackson's dressing room had all the glamour of a daycare center after all the Harris kids finished rearranging it Tuesday (July 17th/Minneapolis concert stop).

Her producer, Jimmy Jam Harris, took his kids - Janet's goodson Tyler and twins Isabella and Max - Over to the Target Center about 5 hours before the buff singer's concert. Reports are that they kind of tore up the place while Jackson was getting made up.

The 100 calming stones in her traveling dressing room just called out for kiddie attention. The shiny black rocks got thrown by Isabella and strewn about by Max, who has many of his dad's features. Jackson loved all the activity. A picture of the Harris kids in matching swimsuits, while vacationing in Hawaii, adorns Jackson's mirror throughout the tour.

Jackson, who told interviewers that she's feeling more inclined toward motherhood since her break with her husband, apparently didn't get enough of the kids. She requested their company on the luxury-bus ride to her concert, at Milwaukee, but their busy social calendar wouldn't allow it. They will visit at other various stops.

Janet gave Jimmy a watch for helping her put the concert together. While I didn't know he was known for being punctual, unless there's a tee time involved, I'm told he got his entourage over to the concert scene in time for the afternoon sound check.

Jackson repeatedly acknowledged Tyler from the stage during her show, but he wasn't into it. He finds the attention embarrassing. (Happy Birthday, anyway, to Tyler, who had a big day Saturday).

Jackson's dramatic stage entrance was upstaged a bit by Kevin Garnett. K.G. was backstage with his girlfriend, Brandi (Jimmy Jam's sister in-law), giving Jackson a hug seconds before they went to sit down. Although K.G. tried to slouch his way to his seat in the darkened arena, the packed house roared as many recognized the extremely tall figure. The people sitting behind K.G. probably really appreciated him keeping his seat during the show...

There were 2 outings Jackson couldn't fit in Monday because of show prep. She wanted to hit Lake Minnetonka on Jimmy jam's jet ski and check out his Charlie Brown likeness outside the Ordway. But the award clutching Charlie Jamm wasn't in place soon enough for her to see it. Hopefully she will have more success hooking up with the Jordans when she performs in Chicago and with "The View" co-star and soon-to-be Value Vision/ShopNBC merchant Star Jones in NYC.

    18/07/01 Milwaukee Show Postponed

Janet Jackson's concert at the Bradley Center has been postponed for tonight, just hours before she was scheduled to take the stage, due to "emergency dental surgery." There was no official word on whether the show, one of 44 scheduled stops on the pop star's "All For You" tour, would be rescheduled. The first stop on the tour, July 5 in Vancouver, was postponed because some of the stage set had not arrived in time for rehearsal. That show was rescheduled for four days later. The concert would have been Jackson's first appearance in Milwaukee since July 1998.

    06/07/01 Set = No Show

VANCOUVER, British Columbia Remember that piece of Janet Jackson's set that had yet to arrive as the singer rehearsed here Tuesday? As of Wednesday, the piece had still not arrived, forcing Jackson to cancel the Thursday-night (July 5) opener of her All for You tour at General Motors Place. Jackson's tour manager, Dave Russell, said that while "90 percent of the bells and whistles are here," and Janet, her band and dancers could still do the show without the missing portion of the set, the singer did not feel right giving her Vancouver fans an incomplete performance. The set segment's delay, according to Russell, was due in part to the combination of the Canada Day national holiday Sunday and the Fourth of July holiday. Although the missing piece was expected to arrive in Vancouver Thursday morning, several run-throughs must first be done with the full set. Janet's All for You tour will now kick off Saturday in Portland, Oregon. Vancouver fans won't have to wait long, however; the show has been rescheduled here for Monday.

    05/07/01 Janet's Tour Exclusive!

JANET JACKSON's going on tour! In support of her new hit album, All For You, Ms. Jackson is preparing a world tour to rival 1990's "Rhythm Nation" and invited ET backstage for a first look at her much-anticipated "All For You Tour 2001" -- the dancers, the costumes and all of the exciting, last-minute changes!

All For You debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart and marks a new direction for Janet, who describes the album as "very freeing." "It's a different thing for me. Growing up, I never dated. I'm doing that now, experiencing that whole life," says the 35-year-old icon. "So, I'm sure you'll hear a lot of that. I won't tell which person this or that song is about, but yes, it shows, and those are the different experiences, some of them." The disc is her seventh studio album and the smash follow-up to her 1997 multiplatinum-selling The Velvet Rope.

One of the hottest concert events of the summer, a portion of ticket proceeds from the "All For You Tour 2001" will be donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America as part of a nationwide campaign. The money will help support the education, leadership and arts programs provided by the more than 2,800 Boys & Girls Clubs around the nation, which serve some 3.3 million children and teens. The Clubs focus primarily on young people from disadvantaged circumstances. "These children are our future," says Janet. "I am just so proud to be involved with helping such a wonderful organization that not only looks after, but nurtures, educates and enriches the lives of so many."

Set to launch July 5 at Vancouver's 16,000-seat GM Place, the "All For You Tour 2001" will include nearly 60 performances across North America and run through October 13 in Denver before heading to Europe for 25 shows in 10 countries. Catch more of Janet's behind-the-scenes tour preparations tonight on ET!

04/07/01 Janet Jackson Postpones Tour Opener

Janet Jackson has postponed her Thursday (7/5) tour opener in Vancouver, British Columbia, because a key portion of her stage hadn't arrived at GM Place arena as of Wednesday night (7/4), according to a press release from the tour's promoters. Promoters blame the delayed shipments on the Independence Day and Canada Day holidays. The tour is now scheduled to open on Saturday (7/7) in Portland, Ore., and the Vancouver show will take place on July 9. According to tour publicists, Jackson's stage set was designed by Mark Fisher, who has designed sets for U2 and the Rolling Stones, and the tour's operation requires sixteen trucks and 110 people. published: 05-Jul-2001

04/07/01 Grammy Winning Pop Queen To Launch World Tour Tomorrow!

Pop Queen Janet Jackson is no stranger to world tours, Janet's first World tour outing was in 1990 to support her 13 million selling album "Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814", the tour became the most successful debut tour in history seen by more than 2 million people, the tour also broke records all over the world, including in Japan where it still holds the record for the fastest sell out in history, in less than 7 minutes. Jackson toured again in 1993 for her 5th album "Janet.", that album has scanned some 8 million units in the states according to SoundScan and 17 million worldwide, Jackson's last tour was for her Grammy winning album "The Velvet Rope," the tour aired in October 1998 on HBO to more than 6 million people, earning a place as HBO's second most watched event ever. Now the Queen Of Pop, hits the road again with her "All For You" world tour which kicks off tomorrow in Canada. Grammy Winning R&B group 112 has signed on as opening act for the Pop Queens tour. Janet told MTV News Monday at rehearsals at Vancouver's GM Place that dancers Shawnette Heard and Gil Duldulao convinced her she had at least one more tour in her and this one is the biggest one yet. Sixteen trucks and 110 people make up the All for You caravan. Many of those trucks are needed to transport a massive stage set designed by Mark Fisher, who, besides working on previous Janet tours, has also designed sets for U2 and the Rolling Stones, charter members of the "size matters" club. Only one problem here at T-minus three days and counting: part of that stage set has yet to arrive in Vancouver, and that will necessitate some last minute scrambling. What can fans expect from the show that is unveiled Thursday night? Most details are being kept tightly under wraps, but look for a "brighter" show than the last tour, reflecting the more upbeat mood of the All for You album. A 26-song setlist of which eight are songs from the new CD includes "Would You Mind," without a doubt Janet's most explicitly erotic song ever. Seeing that one alone being performed live should be worth the price of admission. The year has been great for Janet, Jackson's "All For You" CD has sold more than 4.8 million units world wide, and 2 million of them were sold in the US in less than 3 weeks. Her single broke worldwide records, in becoming the first single to be added to every possible radio station in the US, France and Japan, her video "All For You" made it's world premiere on BET, MTV and Oxygen to over 3 million people, and she was honored by MTV with the first ICON Award, Jackson is on the win.

03/07/01 Janet Jackson Tour Set To Launch (Almost)

VANCOUVER, British Columbia It was on the eve of Janet Jackson's last U.S. tour, her Velvet Rope outing, that she told MTV News that tour might very well be her last. But now, almost two-and-a-half years later, she's on the verge of launching yet another globe-spanning extravaganza, All for You, which gets underway Thursday night here in Vancouver. So, what changed her mind?

Otherwise, spirits seem high among Janet and her 10 mostly new dancers (three were with her on the Velvet Rope tour), who've already been in Canada three weeks, rehearsing 10-12 hour days, with Shawnette Heard as chief choreographer, taking over for Janet's longtime dance captain, Tina Landon. Another figure conspicuously absent from tour preparations is, of course, Janet's ex-husband Rene Elizondo, from whom Janet is still going through a litigious split. When asked if his absence was felt in the days leading up to the launch, Janet replied, "Not really."

    03/07/01 Janet Set Not Set

Cancellations and postponements seem to be all the rage these days. Janet Jackson is the latest celeb to call off a date. The singer's "All For You World Tour 2001" was supposed to start last night in Vancouver, but due to the fact that one of her stage sets did not arrive in time for rehearsals, she had to cancel the opening date. That Vancouver date has been rescheduled for Monday, July 9, and the tour will now kick-off on Saturday in Portland, OR. Though Janet and ensemble could have done the show, she said it did not feel right giving the Vancouver fans an incomplete performance. Speaking of Janet's Portland date, tomorrow night. VH1 will broadcast live ... three of Miss Jackson's songs. "Janet Jackson: Opening Night Live'' will begin at 10:00 p.m. with Janet's "Greatest Television Moments,'' plus live reports by VH1's Rebecca Rankin from Portland, Oregon. When Janet hits the stage, VH1 viewers will have front row seats for the live performance of three songs.
