Chapter 4
The Memory
It was getting late and Akina's skin was beginning to wrinkle, yet she stayed in the lake till Taskin started to swim near her…
"What do you think you are doing?"
"Trying to get a cute girl like you" he said as Akina started to swim to shore.
"Where are you going oh wise and strong Akina?"
"Back to camp, Crystal must be hungry and worried about me. Good night boy" She climbed out and started walking back to camp. The night air chilled her dripping wet body to the bone. Oh how she wished for a blanket or some dry clothing, but all of that was back at camp, a good 3 miles away from where she was. Akina was trying to see why the name 'Taskin' rang a bell in her mind. But, sadly, nothing came up, so she shook it off like a leaf on her shoulder. But…she had a misty memory of that boy…but how?? She had only been in his city for 4 days, maybe a week…but somehow…
"Akina!! Wait up!!!" she looked behind her shocked to see that boy, Taskin, running after her. She first thought was to keep going and never look at him again, but something inside told her to wait. Akina leaned up against a tree while Taskin slowed down to catch his breath.
"Man you walk fast, and your half deaf too."
"What!? I can hear quite well thank you!"
Well then, why didn't you slow down a mile back when I was calling to you, hmm?" she had to admit that she did not hear his calls…but the only reason for that was because she was thinking, and not paying attention to the world around her.
"My mind was somewhere else, okay?"
"What every you say, Kiny." She looked at him in shock, 'how does he know that name?' she puzzled. Only my best friend knows that name…another look of shock as tears filled her eyes.
"As the wind blows to the east, I must travel south to the fire." She said in a low whisper. Taskin drew close and whispered back into her ear.
"And the water flows to the west, but I must travel north to the mountains." He stepped back and smiled, Akina was dumbfounded.
"Did you not recognize your dear friend my sweet Kiny?"
"But how?? When I left you were sick, and were about to…" he put a finger over her lips to stop her from finishing.
"That was then, lets live for now, ok?" she nodded in reply. Taskin looked at her as if he would kiss her blue lips.
"Cold?"
"Huh? Oh…yeah, how did you know?"
"Your lips are blue and purple." He smiled sweetly and handed her his cloak that was hanging in a tree when they swam. For the rest of the way, Taskin walked with Akina, arm over her shoulder…her head resting on his…night was coming but they did not fear it, the moon would be full tonight, and beams from it light their way back to camp.
