This first tale takes place in July of 1914, during a journey to Budapest. The very beautiful Baroness Maria Von Pallberg is menaced by the troubling Captain Kruger for mysterious reasons, and during the course of which the young and attractive diplomat Paul de Mornand keeps one eye on the charming but enigmatic Stephanie.
