Introducing The
Firestorm
Starting 5 and 6th Man

 Kelvin Davidson Pg:
Right off from the start Kelvin has shown the league his skills.  Even though he gets injured a lot he is only 22 and will shine in a New York jersey for a while.
Latrell Sprewell
       Greg Lynn Sg:
Greg has been the main reason that this offence has sparkled.  He has scored no less then 15 all season and he has been listed as one of the top shooting guards in the league.
Scooter Jacobs Sf:
The least sought after player in season 1 has turned into one of the most sought after.  Scooter who couldn't shoot for a good Fg percentage has now turned into a star and a fan favorite in New York.

Steve Combs Pf:
The big man acquired from Fernie is known around the locker room as granddaddy since he is older then the whole team even the coach.  He has come alive as of late and was a great trade.

Marty Williams C:
Marty is a young phenom.  The 21 year old has been shutting down all of the top centers in the league and has picked up some good numbers for himself.  He has learned a lot from all of the veterans on the team.

Ryan Hatfield Pf/c:
Ryan has been the skilled backup that Coach Goodstadt hoped for when he acquired him from Roswell.  He has been insurance for Marty Williams and has taught Marty how to play the game.

Rest of Team:

Pg: Sam Merritt 32
Pg/Sg: Chris Connell 24

Scooter Jacobs: Favorite in the New York Area
By Super Mario Lemieux

I got the chance to talk to Scooter Jacobs during my
Pittsburgh Penguins playing the New York Islanders
Jan. 12 in  which the Islanders came on top 6-5.
SML: You were once a laughing stock of the league
and now your one of the better Small forwards in the
league how does it feel?
SJ: Well last year I was practically given away by
Brooklyn to their cross town rivals which really showed
how much they liked me.  Steven Goodstadt believed
in me and after a hard working offseason I have over
come my biggest problem Field Goal percentage and I
hope to lead this team to the playoffs.
SML: In the article Washington wrote and I quote"
This  just in!!  The owner of New York has agreed
with Scooter Jacobs on a new contract.  Apparently,
when Jacobs' current contract expires, New York and
Jacobs' agent have secretly agreed to 3 1-year
contracts at below market value to guarantee Jacobs a
multi year contract that will help New York with its
salary cap.  If found guilty, the owner and gm of New
York will be suspended and they will lose their 1st
round picks over the next 5 seasons.  Wait a minute,
New York doesn't have any.  They'll just have to sell
the team."  I knew you were upset by this but how did
you take this?
SJ: Well Sam's comments really upset me but I didn't
let it ruin my game  it actually made me want to crush
him when I played him.  Right after Dagwood
Bumstead wrote his article Sam said "I don't know how
many times we play this season-- at least 3, maybe 4,
but I'll win one of those games.  Mark my word for it
too."  Even though I have forgave him I use all of
those comments he said as fuel to kick his team's @$$
every time and so far they haven't beaten us once and
I plan to keep it that way.

SML: Who worked with you in the offseason on your
shot selections:
SJ: Oddly enough but it was Greg Lynn and Marty
Williams.  We aren't  the best of friends (Greg and
I) because we both want the ball but he wants to win.
Marty on the other hand was just there and he helped
us out.  They both really helped my game.
SML: Well the 2nd intermission just ended and I have
to get back on the ice speak to you soon.
SJ: Well nice chatting with you.  Let's go Islanders

Davidson Sparkles in win
Super Mario Lemieux- Newsday

Coming off an injury Kelvin Davidson scores 24 points and dishes out 10 assists as the red hot Firestorm beat a tough Albecete Burning Hell team 101-91 today. Davidson was out for the past 3 games with a tender ankle and just came back with a sparkling performance. Shooting 8-15 from the field and 8-8 from the line he has proven to coach Steven Goodstadt that he is capable to play a point guard as a shooting guard type player and still dish the ball around.
" This guy is the best pg in the league. He may not pass the ball as much as most of the guys, but this guy puts a spark into this offense. I don't see many point guards doing that. He will be on this squad for a while. I don't think he'll be traded anytime soon," says Julius "Dr. J." Erving executive VP of the Firestorm team. "Steven Goodstadt is one of the better coaches of the league. He had a great core 4 in Kelvin, Greg (Lynn), Scooter (Jacobs), and Marty (Williams) and he turned it into a great 7 man rotation by adding Steve Combs, Ryan Hatfield, and Matty Quinn.
The Firestorm get to battle Bermuda tomorrow. Look for Marty Williams and Kelvin Davidson having good games.
Other Stats:
Marty Williams grabbed 17 boards and 21 points but shot a dismal 6-18.
Greg Lynn shot 10-19 scoring 22 points also getting 6 boards and 5 assists
Scooter Jacobs had 4 steals but had 5 turnovers.

Firestorm acquire Hatfields, Quinn
Super Mario Lemieux - Newsday

On Saturday night we had confirmations to two trades the first one had a total of 6 players changed addressees in a 3 team deal involving former Firestorm player Ed Kane. The Firestorm acquired the Hatfield brothers Ryan and Alonzo from Roswell XT. Roswell also gave up fan favorite J.J. Mccaughley to the South Carolina Hurricanes. South Carolina also received Carl Mercer and Frank Cox from the Firestorm. In an unrelated deal the Firestorm dealt Joe Delvin back to Roswell for Matty Quinn a Firestorm killer in season 1.
" I believe that our bench was really killing us. Although we were winning our bench almost gave the games away. I believe Ryan and Matty will help us keep up on our winning ways and put less pressure on our team leaders Kelvin Davidson and Marty Williams," said a jubilant Steven Goodstadt as he was leaving a team meeting on Sunday.
All of these teams are playoffs caliber teams which doesn't have many of the players upset. Matty Quinn was excited because he knew he would be playing since being exiled to Roswell's bench a few days ago. Mercer and Cox were bench warmers on the Firestorm squad and will be playing in the Hurricanes literally.

Life in the Fast Lane
By Dagwood Bumstead (DB)
We went one on one with team leaders Kelvin Davidson (KD) and Marty Williams (MW) about playing for New York.  Here is what they said.

DB: So how's it like playing in New York?

KD: Its not much different for me.  I was drafted out of St. John's college.  I was born and raised right here in the Big Apple.

MW: Its tough.  I love it a lot better then Roswell though.  But  I grew up on a country farm in Kentucky.  Not much stuff to do there.

DB: I have to go but one quick question.  How does it feel to be so regarded on a team that has veterans like Greg Lynn and Steve Combs

MW: I know this may sound corny but we are the heart of the team.  A lot of coaches disagreed with Steven (Goodstadt) about us starting but we have shown them.  The other guys think because of what we have proven we make the team look good.

KD:  He's right.  We have proven ourselves to the league and the guys respect us for it.  Its great.

Contender or Pretender? I'd say Contender:
By Dagwood Bumstead
During the week Washington's owner Sam Plummer said of controversial comments about the Firestorm such as  "You're going to finally have competition within our division.  I know he'll kill me for this, but New York is not a contender, he's just a pretender."
But this team is not a pretender folks.  Why in the world would a last place team make these type of comments to a 5-1 team.
Also I have spoken to Coach Steven Goodstadt and he says " The team leaders (Kelvin Davidson and Marty Williams) took a logo of Washington and he (Kelvin) and the team have had target practice with that photo."  Steven says "that Joe Delvin has had the best shot."
Pretender I can't see that.  Listen to what team leader Kelvin Davidson has to say, " Anyone who says that our team isn't good is crazy.  We have won 5 of 6 yet Washington only won 1 of 6.  Oh well I just hope that Joe Delvin doesn't bring his gun to the stadium when we play them."  New York plays Washington at home day 37.

Weekly Roundup: Firestorm goes 5-1
This week was a good one for the Firestorm as they won their first 4 including one over a tough Colorado team.  Day 1 they beat Chacarita 111-102. Day 2 they won 103-102 against a tough Colorado team.  Then they beat Albecete 98-97 day 3.  Day 4 they beat Chacarita again 115-103, but they lost their center Marty Williams for a game.  Day 5 they lost to a very impressive London team 117-98.  Day 6 they got their center back and beat Chacarita for the 3rd time this week 106-85.  Marty Williams is leading the league in rebounds and Kelvin Davidson and Scooter Jacobs have shaped up the offence.

Davidson picked for All Preseason team
A report from Gspn Sports has the all preseason team awards in here they are:
Pg: Kelvin Davidson New York
Sg: Rick Schulz London
Sf: Pete Benton Berlin
Pf: George Holt Midland
C: Jim McCarthy Cincinnati
Gspn also did a full player rankings in which Kelvin came in 4th place.  Fellow New York player Scooter Jacobs finished 22nd in the chart.  Congratulations to those two.

Firestorm Preseason Roundup: Davidson and Williams Shine as Firestorm Crush Myrtle Beach 132-93
In their last few games of the preseason Kelvin Davidson and Marty Williams had there best games together as pg and Center as the Firestorm put together a impressive 3 game winning streak by beating Myrtle Beach 132-93, beating Berlin 115-100, and beating Division rival South Carolina in a thriller 120-116.  Kelvin Davidson proved he was the best pg in the league by shining on the courts and in the clubhouse taking over a role once filled by Ed Kane traded to acquire Davidson in the draft. "It's been a tough challenge as just coming out of college to be elected team captain by Steven (Goodstadt) he has a lot of faith in me and I will show him that I will live up to my potential," says a beaming Davidson as he left the locker room Friday after beating SC.  On the other part of this duo Marty Williams, who played for the 1998 NCAA champs Kentucky has been making Goodstadt a genius in acquiring him from Roswell in a three way trade in which New York gave up fan favorite center Mike Begley.  "  I liked it in Roswell but there were no fans, no support.  C'mon when you play in a place that's in a TV show with aliens who the hell will want to show up.  At least in New York I could play in Madison Square Garden.  Its packed every night.  I like showing off.  The fans forgot about Begley," says an esteemed Williams on Saturday after pulling off a win against Berlin.  "We started the preseason slow but once Kelvin came back we picked it up.  Kelvin and Marty and Scooter (Jacobs) will lead to the core of this team for years to come," says Goodstadt.  So there you have it two superstars in the making both of them playing in New York. On another note the Firestorm finished the preseason 8-4.

Dave Booker acquired from Albecete
Dave Booker was acquired yesterday from Albecete along with Harry Hancock and Myrtle Beach's 2nd round pick for Woody Summers and Steve Felix.  GM/Coach Steven Goodstadt, says that this  trade give us more versatility and better 3pt shooting.  Greg Lynn the star Shooting Guard says, " Dave is a great veteran.  I'm glad that I'm not  the old fart in the clubhouse.  As for Harry, I hope his 3pt ability will help us win games.  Booker will backup the power forward and center positions, and Hancock will back up Scooter Jacobs at small forward.

Ernie Barnes traded
Point Guard/Shooting Guard Ernie Barnes was traded to Cincinnati last week for Small Forward/Power Forward Steve Felix.  Felix 22, was a rookie drafted out of Seton Hall college this year 1st round 24th pick of the draft. "Will be a great help for the team as we finally get a versatile backup for power forward Joe Delvin," says Coach Steven Goodstadt.  "I'm happy to be playing for a New York Team as I went to college in New Jersey.  I was really depressed when the Firestorm lost to Berlin in the 1st round of the playoffs.  I hope I could be a great help for the team," says Felix.  " I'm really upset about this.  Although I knew that Steve (Goodstadt) didn't want me here in the first place, I could of helped the team out.  I hope Cinci is as competitive as New York is," says a disgruntled Ernie Barnes as he left the locker room.

Firestorm trade Kane draft Davidson
The Firestorm made a blockbuster trade as they Ed Kane for the 8th pick and draft Kelvin Davidson out of St. John's college.  Davidson and Ernie Barnes will combine for the point guard combo.
