Self Introduction

As indicated in my article, I am a Gemini Sun person, with Sagittarius Rising and an Aquarian Moon. Some of my favourite things are wind, rain, Whangamata Beach, boating in rough seas, walking the dog, cats in general and mine in particular, music- often classical but also modern, art and painting (admiring and doing), needlework, chocolate mousse, TV comedy and ‘who-dun-its’, conversation & laughter, and quiet times with just me & my ‘dreams’ and some lighted candles. I read historical novels, science fiction and home design and décor magazines for relaxation – I even, at times, actually put some of the ideas into practice, but reading and day-dreaming of the possibilities can leave little time for the actual doing! **

Talking, reading, writing & studying have always been important in my life. I love being a perpetual student! Originally trained as a Teacher, then when our children were still fairly young I went back to University, completing part-time, over several years, a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Psychology, Sociology and Education and then, after a year’s break in which I took up night-school pottery classes (for something completely different, and in case I got bored!) I went back to Varsity and completed a post-graduate Diploma in Guidance and Counselling.

I worked in counselling/education organisations since then, both as a counsellor and as an administrator, always part-time so I could also have time for my main interest and passion – astrology! This has led me to many other learnings – tarot, numerology, ancient history, science fiction, mythology, Buddhism, wicca and spirit-guide & past-life meditation – there is always something to discover or re-discover about our social world and personal interactions, and astrology has been my key to all these many doorways to understanding.

Our children (2 girls and a boy) have all grown and left home. I live with Eddie, my best friend & partner of nearly 30 years, my 10 year old Welsh Springer Spaniel, Dara and our two cats; Webster – large, fluffy, silver-grey tabby who’s very affectionate and very lazy and Magic who is a small, lithe and lethal hunter of birds, mice, rats nearly her own size and any food that is left, for even a moment, on the table or bench, is also considered ‘fair game’!

I have always felt it important to celebrate the many cycles of change in our lives, from that of nature to our own personal and family-oriented stages of growth and change. A couple of years ago family and friends celebrated the birthday of our elder daughter, who had recently left NZ for her big O.E. and was in England. We had a lighted candle dedicated in her name & surrounded by roses, in the centre of the table, and partook of her favourite food and wine! Then we rang her and wished her all the best on the morning (for her) of her Solar Return!

** Since writing this I finally got up enough inspiration, determination and sweat to finish re-decorating the room I use as a study/den/santuary. One wall papered in a beautiful deep turquoise which has a random pattern of Greek phrases on it - I was 'drawn' to this paper when I saw it as someone once referred to my santuary as my 'keiros temenos' = my sacred space in Greek! The rest of the walls are in a warm terracotta textured paper and the couch is covered in turquoise/blue/gold material in an astrological pattern! I am, needless to say, VERY pleased it the end result - and with me & my efforts!!
