Chapter 21 - 30

Chapter 21

 July 5th 1999

Dear Diary,

I drove Ola to the airport earlier this afternoon. And now this place just seems so big and empty. At least I got him to promise me to call as soon as he landed in in Sweden, whatever the time might be here.
Oh, I miss him so much and it's only been a couple of hours. Hopefully I can get out of here in 3 weeks. But I might have to wait 4 weeks, the only thing I really know right now is that I really love him.
Wait a minute-someone's at the door!

It was from the florist's. They delivered the cutest teddybear I've ever seen and it has three red roses in his hand and of course a note.
--------------
Jag saknar dig redan, låt Teddy här ta hand om dig tills vi ses igen. Jag älskar dig. O
(I miss you already, let Teddy here take care of you until we meet again. I love you. O
--------------

He had had to arrange this before he left, it was his handwriting on the note. Do I have to say that I'm sitting here crying and at the same time being so angry at him. He knew I couldn't get a hold of him when I've received this.
Wait! The door again!

I opened it and found Ben standing there.

Ben: Ola told me before he left that you should need these by now.
(He held out a box of tissues)

Me: Oh, Ben I miss him so much that it hurts!

He embraced me as I went on sobbing.

Ben: I know you do, but unfortunelly for me, you'll be going home soon. I can get you an extra shift at the Deep tonight if you like to work the pain away.

Me: No, I'd like to spend the night alone with Teddy.

Ben: Teddy?

Me: Yes, the teddybear over there with the roses(I pointed at it) that Ola had delivered.

Ben: Oh, that's why he asked me to bring you these( he still had the tissues in his hand.) And I don't blame you, Teddy is a real cutie. I'll leave you now, but you know that if you feel like it you can come into the house. We'll be home all evening, at least Meg will I have to drop in at the Deep.

After Ben left I went to bed to try to get some sleep. It was only 5PM, but I didn't sleep much last night. It won't be easy though. The pillow smells like Ola.

I must have fallen asleep because I woke up at the sound of the doorbell(again, third time since Ola left). Wonder who it can be this time. I opened the door and was really surprised.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chapter 22
It was Ashely, Trevor and Dallas.
All: Hi Tina!
Trevor: Mom said that you might be upset and that we wasn't to disturb you.
Me: Oh, you never do.
Ashley: But we thought we'd bring you these to make you happy.
She pushed Dallas forward with a bouquet of flowers from the garden. And I started to cry again.
Trevor: Did we make you sad now?
Me: No, it's just they are so lovely. Come in and I'll see if I got some cookies and lemonade.
Dallas: We love your cookies!
Me: I know you do, I keep making new ones allt he time.
We sat down at the kitchentable with our cookies and lemonade. When suddenly, guess what? The doorbell! This time it was Meg.
Meg: Oh, Tina sorry to disturb you, but have you seen the children, they seem to have disappered and I'm starting to get worried.
Me: Yes, they are in the kitchen.
Meg: Sorry about that, I did tell them not to bother you. Ben told me how upset you were.
Me: I'm ok now. Come in. I think we got some cookies and lemonade left.
Meg: You don't mind then? I really love your cookies!
I started to laugh.
Meg: did I say something funny?
Me: Yes, exactly the same thing as your kids said half an hour ago when I invited them.
Meg: Oh, what lovely flowers!  she saw the bouquet at the table.
Me: Yes, your kids brought them to make me happy, and they helped. Come here and I'll show you Teddy!
Meg: Teddy?
Me: Yes, Ola had this really cute teddybear delivered together with 3 red roses and a note telling me he misses and loves me.
Meg: Oh, yes he really is cute! Both of them I mean. Teddy and Ola.
We sat down talked and laughed for a while. It was really nice.
Me: Come in, it's open!
Ben entered.
Ben: How did you know?
Meg: Yes, not even I knew he was home yet.
Me: I heard the car a few minutes ago. And the time that has past since then is enough for him to go into the house and not find any of you or a note and come up here to look for you.
Ben: You are great!
Meg: Yes, you really are. I thought I was the only one who knew my husband that well. But I see I've got some competition.
Me: Oh, don't worry. I've just known him a while longer than you and the last month I've noticed that he hasn't changed very much since he spent all those summers in Sweden.
Ben: Oh, thank you. So you mean that I'm still a 15 year boy?
Meg: In some ways you are! she laughed.
Ben. Oh, this we have to contiue at home.
Me: And what do you mean by that, are you thinking with your young boyish mind again.
Ben: Oh.......
Meg: I think we've got him this time, but we have to watch out. He's revengeful now.
We all laughed.
Me: There are a few more cookies and some lemonade if you like.
Ben: Oh, I love your cookies!
We all laughed at him.
Ben: What did I say.
Ashely and Trevor at the same time: The same thing as we and mommy did before.
Then Ben laughed too.
So for being a sad Sunday to begin with it ended in a very nice way.
Good night my friend.
Chapter 23
July 8th 1999
Dear Diary,
It's been 3 days now since Ola left and we have talked twice. The first time only for 15 minutes, he had just landed and put his cellphone on. He was on his way home and should try to get some sleep he said. He had to start working the next day.
Today I had lunch with Annie. That was nice. She wasn't that "bad" as I got to know her through Ben's letters. I think that she and I can get to be friends, but not like me and Meg. Talking about Meg, I have to help her with a wedding this Saturday. And I'm working at the Java Web too. It's going to be great coming back home, I have only one job there! But I have said yes to them all myself and they keep me from missing Ola too much.
What me and Annie talked about? Everything, how she meet Harm at a charityfunction they both attended. And how they hit it of at once. Annie said that she didn't believe it at once, it had never been like this for her. She also said that she now know a bit how Ben and Meg is connected to eachother. But their connection is something very special, that did we both agree on!
July 10th 1999
Today it's Friday and I have the day off, or at least I don't have to work at the Deep or the Java Web, but I have to help Meg prepare for tomorrow. It's some high and mighty(not my words) layer's daughter that are getting married, but it's a good contact for Meg, so it's important that it's all going well. I've been put in charge of driving.
And then next week it's the twin's birthday!
July 11th 1999
After the wedding
And I thought that Ben and Meg's garden was huge! It's jkust half as big as the one where the wedding was. It's lucky the live outside town, I don't think the property would have fitted in anywhere in town. One postivie thing was that it was easy to find, I'd been working at the Java Web earlier today so the van was loaded and ready to go when I came. Meg had left before, she needed to do some last minute things before we started to arrive with the food and stuff.
So almost a week has gone by since Ola left. I miss him a lot. We've talked twice and I had the chance to sit down for a short while at work today and chat to him. Luckly he had the computer on back home. It's not the same thing as talking on the phone, but it's a lot cheaper. I had some great news to tell him too. I'll be going back home in two weeks. The new girl(she's taking over my jobs at the Java Web ane the Deep) is coming monday. And this means that there will be some summer left when I get back.
July 12th 1999
The doorbell rang at 9AM, it's Sunday and the only day I really had off this week. And since we had that wedding to cater last night it got to be quite late. Anyhow, it was Annie! (Now I know what Meg meant about not knowing when or where Annie would show up)
Annie: Sorry to wake you up! I didn't think anyone could sleep when the weather was this great!
Me: I haven't had the chance to look at the weather yet, I have the blinders down, so I could sleep in. But now that I'm awake, please come in!
Annie: Thank you, I did bring some fresh bread, I thought that you maybe wanted to have breakfast with me. I have a favour to ask.
I let her in put the coffee on and change from pyjamas to clothes.
Annie: Have you heard from Ola since he left?
Me: Yes, I've talked to him twice and then I manage to catch him on the internet when I had a minute over yesterday.
Annie: You miss him, I can hear that on your voice, by the way, I heard about the teddybear.
Me: Good news travels fast! Yes, I miss Ola, Teddy is great, but it can never replace Ola. So, what bring you here this sunny Sundaymorning?
Annie: Harm asked me to marry him last night:
Me: Oh, congratulation!
Annie: Thank you! The thing is that I really don't have many friends left here. I can only blame myself for the way I acted. And I felt that we got such a good contact when we had lunch the other day, that I now want to ask you to be my maid of honour. Would you do that?
Me: Oh, well, I'm honoured to be asked, but it all depends on when you're planning to have the wedding.
Annie: In the beginning of January, the next millenium. I do want some time to plan for it.
Me: Oh, six months isn't much. But to ease your mind I say yes. It looks like me and Ola are celebrating the millenum here anyway.
Annie: You just made me very happy. So how long are you staying now?
Me: Just two more weeks, but I'll give you my e-mail and phonenumber before I leave, so that we can keep in touch.
Chapter 24
July 18th 1999
Dear Diary,
Who said that time doesn't go by quickly. It's been yet another week and all day yesterday was spent with the twins. It was their birthday and they've invited their friends. They turned 9! This party was like nothing I've ever seen, but hopefully they'll spend their 10th in Sweden. I have had my share of parties and helped out at other's too, but I came to know that it was a long time ago. 20 kids for three hours is quite a job. But they loved the cakes I've made. I had done them they day before and then I only had the decorations to do yesterday and for that I needed the help of the twins(or I'd promised them that they could help with it after all it's their birthdaycakes).
We did set the tables together too, all after a familybreakfast. Me and Meg took them shopping the other day. We bought papercups, plates and napkins and of course they couldn't settle for one kind, but Meg was quick, she said that the boys could have one set and the girls another.
If they got presents? Well, I can say that they did, a lot too! But we had two parties, one for friends in the afternoon and one for family and adult friends in the evening. And what I gave them. Useful stuff of course. They do got their own bedrooms but the share a "study". So since they've asked what some words are in Swedish I bought them a English-Swedish dictionary together. Then I bought them both some notebooks and pens. I also got them stationery and stamps so that we can write eachother when I get back home. I'll be leaving in a week. Of course I had to get some for Dallas too although she can't write herself.
Surely we're going to use the internet too, but both Meg and Ben are very strict about the kids learning to write by hand and not use the computer for everything. Meg even told me that the choose the school just because they don't use the computer for everything. The kids there has to write by hand.
Anyhow the kids loved my present and the cakes too. It was a great day! And I shall never eat cake again, I had way too much today. But I always say so everytime I had any.
July 22nd 1999
It's Thursday today and I'M GOING HOME ON SUNDAY! One bad thing is that the trip is so long. I have to wait both in New York and then on Iceland. But when I'll finally arrive in Sweden Ola will be there. We've already talked about it. He said that nothing could stop him. I have to call him when I arrive in Copenhagen though so he know when to pick me up in Malmö.
I have to say that the people of this town takes any excuse for throwing a party. Saturday is partytime again, and for me this time and I've only been here for about two months and are coming back right after Christmas. There are two weddings to attend. But OK, if they like to I won't stop them. I have really gotten used to all these parties.
I have to go! I can't be late for these last few days at work. There are still some things I have to help Sue(the new girl) with. It's not easy to get into a new job when it's the height of the season. I didn't have any problems, but I have a similar job back home.
Probably I won't have that much time writing the two last days, but I thought about opening a page here on Saturday to have as a kind of guestbook for them to write in.
Chapter 25
July 24th 1999
Dear diary used as guestbook today
I'm going home tomorrow and today it's all party here. I shall see if I can figure out who is here and who isn't. OK some of my "collegues" won't be here all day, someone has to work so they will drop in and out on their way to or from the Deep and the Java Web. But besides me the Evans family will be here all day, yes, Ben will drop in and out too, he can't just drop it all at work.
So let's get to it! I hope that whoever I miss here will say so itself as they sign this "guestbook". OK! Besides me and the Evans it's Hank & Joan, Sara & Casey, Bette, Ashe, Emily and Dee, Sam & Paula, Gabi & Ricardo, Miranda & Antonio, Annie & Harm, Olivia, Bubba & Trey, Michael & Vanessa, Mark.
I have to go now, it's time for the guests to get a chance to write.
Chapter 26
July 25th 1999
I'm on the plane between L.A and N.Y now. It was quite a party last night and when I finally got to bed after having read all the nice things in my "guestbook" there weren't many hours before I had to get up again. But I think I'll get some sleep when I finally get on the plane to cross the Atlantic.
Ben, Meg and the children drove me to the airport. It was really early, but Meg didn't want to wake her parents up to take the children, so they got to come along. It was so sad leaving them, but we'll meet soon again. And they promised me that they'll get to Sweden next year.
I'm sitting here with Teddy looking at me from the floor, I didn't want to pack him in a suitecase. I didn't think that a teddybear could be that presious to me again. Oh, I miss Ola so much. I didn't have time to call him before I left Sunset Beach, so I have to do it at the airport in N.Y. Just to let him know that I'm on my way.
------------
I really don't have that much to say. Now I'm really on my way. I've left N.Y and the plane is heading for Iceland. I can't get home soon enough. I did get hold of Ola, he said he misses me too, and asked if Teddy was keeping me company. He's so sweet. What else is there to say. I'll try to get some sleep now, I'm really tired! And I know that I won't be very fresh after this trip, but I don't want to fall into the arms of Ola and fall asleep at once.
------------
July 26th 1999
So, now it's really getting close to home. We've left Iceland a couple of hours ago. I had the chance to reload the batteries of my laptop, so I could write some more. I did call Ola again, this time I woke him up, but I had to call and tell him that the flights had been on time so far. I only hope that the flight between Stockholm and Malmö is on time too. I'm going to sleep some more before we land in Sweden.
-----------
At the airport in Stockholm.
I checked all my luggage in. And soon, very soon we get to board the plane. It seems to be full. But after travelling all these hours, what's 50 more minutes. I know that Ola will be waiting for me at the airport. I'll be landing at about 9.30 AM, so I guess since it's Monday he'll be working and picking me up in the truck, but whatever, as long as he's doing it.
Have to go now! It's time to board the plane. I won't write anything more until this afternoon or something like that. This plane isn't as big as the one I've flown with so far today and yesterday. There will be no space to sit and write.
So, I'll see you later
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chapter 27

July 26th 1999

Dear Diary,

What a day! I'm home now.
As I guessed before the plane was full! I came to sit beside a girl that I talked to. Actually she started it.

The girl: Hi! You look tired, have you been travelling long?

Me: Yes, I have. Alomost 24 hours all the way from Califorina.

The girl: Oh, that's why you're tanned. Vacation or? By the way my name is Marie.

Me: I'm Tina. Kind of a vacation, but I worked all the time. I visited my cousin there, he just had his nightclub renovated so I went there to surpirse him and then he put me to work!

Marie(laughing): I see! So now you're feed up and went home?

Me: Oh, no! I could have stayed there forever almost, but my boyfriend is here and I had to go home.

Marie: OK! I guess I know how you feel, I'm on my way to mine too. He doesn't know it, I'm going to surprise him.

Me: That sounds nice, it's like mine did. He really surprised me. We weren't together until he came to Sunset Beach to talk to me! We met at my sister's first and had know eachother for some time. Sunset Beach is the town where I stayed.

Marie: Oh, to have a guy flying all the way around the world just to talk to you! I haven't talked to mine in a long time. He has been busy with work I guess.

Me: Then he's really going to be surprised when you turn up.

Marie: I hope so.

Me: Where are you going to stay?

Marie: I rented a room in a town called Tomelilla, it's where he lives.

Me: How funny, I live in Ystad, not far from there and Ola, my boyfriend, lives in Onslunda, just north of Tomelilla. You can get my phonenumber as soon as we have landed, I have "businesscards" in my bag on the shelf.

Marie: Sounds great, my boyfriend's named Ola too. Funny! Maybe we'll can get together all four of us?

Me: Maybe.
--
I started to get suspicious, was it the same Ola we talked about. I know that he said something about not getting that girl he "dated" before to understand that it was over. And he said to me that he never told her when he moved.
--
Marie: Something wrong? You got so quite.

Me: Oh, nothing! I'm just tired.

Marie: I guess I would have been that too if I'd travelled for 24 hours. Is your boyfriend picking you up?

Me: I hope so. I talked to him before we left Stockholm. He was on his way. He's working but are driving past the airport, so he'll pick me up.

Marie: Oh, is he a taxidriver?

Me: No, he drives a truck.

Marie: So does mine. How about that?
--
Yes how about it? Now I was sure, this was the girl I thought it was. But at least Ola doesn't know she's coming, so that gets me an advantage. I'm going to get of the plane before she does, I'm on the "outside".
--
Me: Yes, the world isn't that big after all. It's time to land now.

We landed and I got my bag down from the shelf and handed her my card(I had to, I didn't want her to get suspicious).

Me: So, give me a call if we don't talk anymore. There are a lot of people her on the plane, so we might get away from eachother.

Marie: Thanks, I will! Have a great day then! I hope he's here!

Me: Me too, you have to have a great day too.

We went of the plane and when I got to the place where the luggage will come Ola was there!

Ola: Hej älskling, jag har saknat dig! (Hi my love, I've missed you!)

Me: I've missed you too!

We kissed and then...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chapter 28
Still at the airport.
I broke the kiss, I did want to have a chance to tell him about my suspicions.
Ola: Why did you do that?
Me: Sorry, there's something important I have to tell you.
I told him my suspicions. He didn't like the sound of it but he assured me that he hadn't any feelings left for her, as he hadn't had very many to begin with, it was just because he couldn't have me he had turned up with her.
And then:
Hello! Tina! There you are!  it was Marie.
Me: Hi again, Marie! Come over here and meet Ola. (He stood behind me with his arms still around me, so that we both could see her face).
--
I guess you all heard about "if looks could kill". I'm very lucky because she would have killed both me and Ola then. Her look would have drilled through me and into Ola too.
--
Marie: So that's why you hasn't returned my calls or called me! You have been away!
Ola: Sorry, I did say that it was over when I left you. But since you didn't understand it, I just ignored you messages and calls.
Marie: And you, she adressed me, did you know who I was at the plane?
Me: No, I wasn't sure, but when I told Ola of my suspicions I got sure about it.
Marie: So, you did really mean that it was over, I thought that you only meant the visit.
Ola: Couldn't you figure it out when I never called you. Anyway it's Tina and me now, as it should have been a long time ago, BUT it will be forever. Darling, let us get your luggage and get on the way. I have the truck filled with gravel and it looks like you need to get some sleep.
Me: Yes, let's get going. I'm sorry Marie, but there's nothing I can do about this thing.
Marie: No, I guess you can't but you're still walking away with the first prize.
Me: Ola's no trophy. He did make this decision on his own you know.
Ola: Tina, which bags are your's?
We collected them and left Marie at the airport.
Ola then dropped me of at my place and said that he'll be back as soon as he finished for the day.
I have gotten some sleep this afternoon and now I'm up again having put some laundry in the washer and I'm jsut waiting for Ola to come. I think I'll send him out to get a pizza or so for dinner. I don't feel like cooking tonight and I don't feel like eating out either. We really do have to adress the problem "Marie", she do have the phonenumbers to both of us.
Someone's at the door, I'll be back soon.
It was Ola, with pizzas! I guess he had the same thought as I did. I have to go, we have to eat and then there are so much to talk about and........
Oh, no! A lady never tells!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chapter 29

July 27th 1999

Dear diary,

First time I woke up today was at 4 AM. It was Ola's alarm that went off, he hadn't woken up before it as he thought he should, so it woke us both. He gave me a kiss on the cheek and told me to get back to sleep and he should call me later and tell if he was in Ystad so that we could have breakfast/lunch together.
Then at 10AM my mother called. I had talked to her briefly yesterday, and said that she couldn't call earlier than 10.
As we were talking Ola called and we decided to meet at a café for breakfast(me) and lunch(him). I got back to my mother and we said that I'd come to their place in the afternoon. I have photos and then gifts from Ben and his family to give them.

It is so great to be back home and it's not as warm as in Sunset Beach, but the Swedish summer is showing it's best side and have done so all summer my sister said when I talked to her.

I've been on the phone a lot today, friends been calling and tomorrow I'm going back to work. It looks to be a quite busy week.
I've started to invite my friends over on Saturday so that we can catch up.

July 30th 1999

Friday today! It has been a crazy week. If you wonder, yes, she called. She's been calling Ola all week on his cellphone so I had to answer it yesterday, just to get rid of her. She's coming over for dinner tonight, and then we'll try to sort everything out and we might get to go on with our life just the two of us, me and Ola.

So, what have happend more this week. I've been "visiting" my future home. We said that it's easier for me to sell or rent out my apartment. He's got a house with a garage where he can work on his cars. But I'm not moving in there at once, oh no, we have to get to know eachother even better, although we talked about the future a lot the other night. Getting engaged and then married. I might add that here in Sweden it's quite usal for couples to get just engaged and live together. But I want to marry, and so does Ola at least he said so.

July 31st 1999

After the party
Oh, it was so great seeing everyone again. We had so much to talk about. I haven't been away more than 2 months, but it's enough and I don't think I'll ever do it again. I've missed everyone so much. Ok, we have kept in touch all the time, but it's not the same as being able to "pop over" whenever one likes to.
Of course I had a lot of photos and stuff to show. All those who's been my friends since we were kids remembered Ben(I think that they all had a crush on him. He was here for a few summers so...).
They all thought that Trevor is his father's boy. He'll be a real heartbreaker in a few years. Alright, I've met him and can say that it's already started.

Oh, the dinner last night! Well, it went well and afterwards we gave Marie a lift to the airport. I don't think we'll ever hear from her again. Not that we were rude or so to her, but Ola never left my side all evening, I think that he wanted to make it clear to her that he's not interested at all in her(anymore I have to add, there must have been something once). I felt a bit sorry for her though, but that's my nature I think. I hope she'll meet someone that can give her the same love and understandning that Ola gives me.

As I said, it's been a crazy week and it's really Sunday now. It's 2.30AM and I have to get to bed. I'm working again tomorrow,OK this evening, at 5.30PM. And there are a few things to wash up tomorrow morning.

Good night my trused friend.

Chapter 30

September 4th 1999

Dear Diary,

Oh, it's been a while, but life is back to normal. OK, maybe not really as it was before Sunset Beach. I have Ola now. We both been working a lot. That's both good and bad, I can't say that we're getting tired of eachother because we spend so much time together, but then I really miss him when we only get to talk on the phone for a couple of days. Like the other night, he was away getting sugar-beets to the factory and it got too late in the evening, so he had to spend the night in the truck. I knew it could happen but that evening I had planned a nice dinner, we hadn't had dinner together for over a week. I did get angry at first but none of us could help it that he got stuck there. He sounded so sad when he called me with the "news". Anyway we have to make up for it this weekend, we do have it off, both of us! I'm waiting for him to get back from the baker's with fresh bread for breakfast. Then I think we take the car and drive off somewhere and just go for a long walk or something, the weather seems to be great today.

Oh, I did get a letter from Ben the other day! He said that since I came there and he noticed the contact I had with the family and friends back home he got inspired, and sat down to write Derek a letter. They haven't had much contact the last few years. They never were the best of friends, but they are after all twins and got that special bound between them.
Ben wrote that as soon as the letter had gotten to Derek he'd call and they had a long chat. Now Derek and his wife was to come visit and if Ben could get them to, they too were to come at New Years.

I think it sounds terrific! I have met Derek a few times, but I never had that connection to him as I have with Ben.

Oh, I hear the key in the door, Ola's back. I think we'll pack a picnicbasket to bring with us. I tell more later, probably not until tomorrow.

Dear Diary,

I thought I write a bit while Ola's in the shower. We have had such a great weekend. We did make that picnicbasket yesterday and went for a long walk in the woods. Today we've just been lazy and the most we'll do today is go to my sister(she lives right outside the village, we're at Ola's) for dinner and that will we do soon. She's been working today(I have had the day off, so that's obvious since we work at the same place). I think he's ready now, and we have to get going soon.

Dinner was great, it was just the four of us, me, Ola, Anna(my sister) and her fiancé. And then she'd been to our parent's place to pick up some of our mother's homemade icecream. It's just so delicious. It's still early in the evening,  but since Ola has to get up at 4AM, 4.30 at the latest, we'll so get to bed.
Good night!
