Sylvie at the Disney castle January 7th 2002 - - I am back, and I DID IT!

Completed the half marathon and had a great time. First and foremost, thanks to all who contributed, either in funds, time and/or support. I couldn't have done without all your help!

Orlando, and most of the southern cities were hit by unbelievable cold fronts, resulting in record breaking cold temperatures, and Disneyworld wasn't any different. When we arrived on Friday afternoon, we could feel the cold similar to that of our usual mild winter days. Interesting, since I had gone through the trouble of doing some "pre-Orlando tanning" so the sun wouldn't be a problem. Little did I know I would need gloves and a hat to start the race.

The rest of the Ottawa group stayed at the Allstar resort, while I had made reservations at the Marriott courtyard, thinking that using my frequent hotel points would give Steve and I a really nice treat. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get Steve a ticket with my points, seems the airlines cut many of the flights as well as limited the amount of available "frequent flyer" seats. So the team left for their hotel, and I did the same for mine.

I did take advantage of Friday night shopping and strolling through Downtown Disney.

Raised funds by the Canadian teams Saturday was the day to register and pick up our race package, our Canadian wide meeting where we were told that the 290 Canadian participants raised more than 1 million dollars (1,038,647), and the pasta party (which I slept through). I did get to listen to John "the Penguin" Bingham speak, and met him afterwards. He signed my jacket which made me very happy! The health expo was nice, bought a shirt and registered to be included in the Mosaic poster they will make for the race weekend. I went to bed early and did manage to get some sleep, although not as much as I really needed. View the rest of the race report.

What is this all about?

Welcome to my page! It's nice to have visitors. I am proud to announce that I have registered to raise funds for the Arthritis Society.Of course, the funds go towards research and education programs.

My aim was to raise $4,000 for this great cause, and I am so happy to announce that this amount has been reached, and more! Through the donations of wonderful individuals, we have raised over $4,600 for this great cause!

Check out the bottom of this page to see how the fundraising progressed. Now, all I have to do, is complete the half-marathon!

Meet Amanda, my Hero!

Amanda

Amanda is a wonderful warm teenager who has been suffering from Arthritis since she was 6. Amanda and her family have joined me in the quest to make this project a very successful one, and together we hope to increase awareness of childhood arthritis, as well as raise much needed research funds.

Read all about Amanda, her family and her life experiences by accessing Amanda's page.

Amanda, you are truly my inspiration!

BUSHTUKAH - my corporate sponsor

I want to give my sincere thanks to Peter Laughton, owner of Bushtukah (my corporate sponsor) who graciously provided my winter running gear!

Also, Isabele Legge who led me through the process of picking out the right clothing. Isabele has completed 8 triathlons, and she not only is very knowledgeable, but also great to chat up. All the staff at Bushtukah are that way, so drop in and check this great store!
