A DAWSON'S CREEK FAN AND BUFFY'S LITTLE SIS.
Fifteen-year-old Michelle Trachtenberg has come far
since her TV debut at the age of three, warbling "Wisk, wisk, wisk,
tsk, tsk, tsk" in a US soap-powder ad. Now she's left the squeaky-clean
for vampire-squashing-stardom as Buffy's kid sister Dawn."I definitely
want to be an actress for the rest of my life...I love to work. I'd film a
series, have an hour break, then go onto the next rather than take a
whole vacation."
Michelle's friends have got used to their mate's unusual
career as well. They visit her on the Buffy set and they all go to the
mall on their days off."I have really great friends. They treat me like
a normal person-we still get into fights and borrow each others stuff
all the time."Aspiring celebs take note: there is a
downside to being a top Buffy star.
"When I'm in a public washroom, people in the stalls
will open the doors, stop dead in their tracks and go 'AAAGH!'
It's very funny but it's very flattering too." We, er, know how you
feel 'Chelle!
Michelle was born in New York, but now lives with
her mum in LA. It's close to the Buffy set and she gets to hang out
with her screen sister Sarah Michelle Gellar. It was Sarah who
recommended Michelle for the role. They worked together on All
My Children, in which Michelle played an autistic girl, and her acting
skills made a big impression on Sarah.
Who does Michelle look to for inspiration?
"Jodie Foster is such an incredible role model. I would love to acheive
what she has acheived."
Michelle also rates Claire Danes and, of course, Sarah
Michelle Gellar. Somehow we reckon it won't be long before Michelle
can count herself among them.
