Web Ring Proposal |
| |
|
The purpose for this Web Ring is quite simple. It will be a place
where students (past, present and future) can stay in contact
with each other or get to meet for the first time in a fun and
creative way. |
|
At first, the plan was to just have a small web ring where students
could chat, exchange online messages and play games located on
several web sites created by the ring founders (Myself, Jen Branson,
Tyrone Martell and Jason Beauchamp), all former students. This will remain one of our priorities,
but this ring will not be limited to just that. |
|
We will give you a chance to show off your talents. How, you say?
Well, I’m sure most of you have thought about creating a personal
web site or already have one. Imagine how a web site on a web ring
will look on a resume. If you decide to join our web ring, we will
be happy to help you to update it or even completely overhaul your
site by giving you our insights and ideas. If you don’t have a web
site yet and are thinking of getting one but just don’t have the
time or don’t know how, we’ll help. To show how serious we are
about this, a select few of us will gladly show you how to get
started on one. |
|
Another idea would be to have online (or offline tutors, which will
also look good on a resume) at your disposal. Picture this, you’re
having problems with your computer, need someone to help you with
something you’re studying or you want someone taken cared of,
certain volunteers will be available to help you out (except for the
taking care of someone person, I’d be able to do it but I decided
to retire a few years back.) I'm kidding by the way. |
|
If you have a web site, or want help creating one and you wish to
join us in our endeavors to have fun and to look good too. This is
an exchange of information and talents to use to your professional
advantage. We will send you a logo (which will be created as soon as
a name is decided by the founders). You can then display it proudly
on your site along side the other proud members. |
|
There will be no strict rules as to how your site should look like,
let your imagination fly, just as long as you are not Jason
Beauchamp and also as long as you got our logo on your site. |
|
We, the founders, are learning the process as we go but are looking
to share this experience, to share what we know, provide an
opportunity, receive input, and to keep the learning process going
steady. |
|
Chat Rooms & Message Boards |
|
My plan was to base a chat room and a message board on one of our
web ring sites, like a grand central or main base, so we can chat or
exchange messages regardless of which site we’re on. I’ve got
the idea, but am still looking for a way to make it happen. Can
anyone help? (Maybe one of those browsers that allow you to see and
chat to others on the same page, or an instant message software that
allows you to locate others through the our web ring. Would be a
perfect opportunity for you programmers just starting out :o) |
|
As for games, well I’m still not familiar with shockwave or flash
programming, but I would love to learn it. Although, I did find some
online games I can link to our sites for the time being. We are
almost positive there are a lot of novice gamers/programmers out
there, so let’s compile
our resources for our own ultimate collection. Who knows it could
end up being one of the best rings on the net, or very well known
with lots of traffic, which would be a good thing as well. |
|
There is power in numbers, and we feel that this idea could benefit
us all in the long run, both professionally and socially. Word to
mouth is the best advertising, and once the word gets around this
could turn out to be a great opportunity to better all our chances
in the IT career field. |
|
If you are interested in being a part of this endeavor, get in
contact so you can be added to the list. There will be regular
meeting days eventually to gain input and insight from those who
choose to participate. If you don't want to join in but still wish
to help us out (whether it be through advice, tips, games, site
add-ons, etc), please feel free to contact us. Being a former
student is not a prerequisite, all are welcome. |
| We look forward
to hearing from you all! |
