The Interview of Gallen in Thailand
Source: Goldstar Magazine, May 2001, Thailand
Q: How do you feel toward the role of Tim in ATE?
A: I really like this role because he is virtuous. Although he did something bad sometimes and did everything for his own advantage, he loves his family. You will see that whatever he did, it has never hurt his family. I like this role because it’s very challenging to act as a bad and good person in one character. It is difficult to present such a character.
Q: We have noticed that you love to express the feeling through your eyes in ATE, is it your own technique?
A: The eye expression is so important. I spend some time practicing such expression. In the past, I can’t do that but the practice makes me good at it now. I have to practice my acting and the rhythm of speech. In other word, I have to study the role before playing, as each role is different. I have to present a very clear character to the audience. I have tried hard to act best.
Q: Which scene in ATE do you like best?
A: Actually, there are many scenes that I like but the most impressive one is that the scenes, which I have to be in a car and under water. I have to learn diving for this scene. Although I have learned it, I was still so scared at that time because there is a high pressure under water and I didn’t wear the goggles. In the story, I have to struggle to get out of the car; I have to try to open the 4 doors of car. I have no idea how I will be survive if the 4 doors become locked. There are the divers around the car but I was still stressed. When I think back of that scene, I think it’s very dangerous scene but if I have to act like that again, there will be no problem for me. The trainer told me that I’m intelligent as I learn quickly how to use the oxygen tank and other equipment.
Q: I would like to know your personal opinion toward Ah Tim?
A: I don’t like his way of working because he did everything to achieve what he wants without thinking if it’s wrong or right. But there is still one good point in him which is he will not hurt his family no matter what happen.
Q: What do the audience get from this drama in your opinion?
A: Its aim is to show you the difference between house and apartment. You have a luxurious house but you can’t find happiness in your life. On the contrary, the one who has a small living place always has his family who support him in whatever he did. Even it’s wrong, eventually they forgive him. In conclusion, the drama wants to show the importance of the family
Q: You are close to Sunny Chan and Roger Kwok in ATE but what about in real life?
A: I’m closer to Roger than Sunny in real life. I will meet Sunny only in the work place. Plus, I’m also close to Louis Koo.
Q: You are always busy with your career and how is your family? How do you divide the time?
A: To be honest, I regret for not having much time for them but they understand me very well. I try to find free time to see my son at home when I’m free from working. I have moved my house to be near the work place and it takes only 7 minutes to drive home to see my son. When my work finishes, I go home immediately.
Q: How do you take care of your health while you work very hard?
A: My family makes soup for me every morning and I’ll have bird’s nest soup. That’s it. There is no problem for me if I have time to sleep or not.
Q: When will your new album be released?
A: I hope it will come out in the next 2 months. I’m working on it now. The album will be on my style as I love to sing song which is suitable for me.
Q: Have you ever dreamed to have your own concert?
A: Actually, I used to perform a live concert. Hopefully, I’ll be able to perform at Hong Kong Coliseum again and in Thailand also.
Q: We are certain that your fans here are looking forward to see your show here.
A: Thank you very much. Thanks for your support. I’ll do my best, both in acting and singing, for my fans.
