Chapter 8

Thanks to Uni, Rissey and my mom for their help on this chapter.

Tell me, somebody, that he didn't say that, please. I pleaded silently.

At that moment I wanted to put Devin down and jump my brother. At that instant I hated him. Why did he always have to be a jerk to me? It was just like when we were kids, although this time we were in front of so many people.

"Plastered on the walls?" asked Chris grinning.

"Yeah, when we went and visited them Laura had all kinda of pictures of him on the walls. And posters of ya'll everywhere," David said.

"Is that so?" asked Justin.

"Oh yeah, right Lis. 'He's so hot. Isn't he cute, Lisa?'"

I just stared at him. Everyone turned and looked at me. The guys, Amanda and Mel, my mom, David and Lisa; they all just looked at me.

"You know what Davey," I drew out his childhood nickname because I knew he hated it now. "If I hadn't known you were an asshole before-hand, I'd.... You can't imagine how much I hate you right now. Why can't you ever just shut the hell up? Lisa, no offense to you, but you married a jerk." I said trying to sound calm as I ran past her and out the door.

"David, will you leave her alone?" my mother asked while smacking him on the shoulder.

I went and hid in Lance's dressing room thinking no-one would think to look for me there. A moment after I closed the door, there was a knock at the door. I tried being quiet to make them go-away but I heard the door open as I hid my face in the cousions on the couch.

"Laura?" he said causiously touching my back.

"What do you want, Lance?" I said with an obvious upset tone.

"Are you ok?"

"No, I'm not. My brother is a total jerk and I hate him."

"No, you don't. Don't say that... half an hour ago you were excited that they were coming."

"Not now, will you tell him to go away?" I cried.

"No, I won't. He's your family and I know that you want him here."

"Damn, I've never seen her like that." commented Chris.

"An emotion! We have to write that one down," Mel said turning to Amanda.

"Dave, you didn't have to do that." Lisa said holding the sqirming toddler in her arms.

"So she had posters of us? Or just Lance?" asked Joey.

Everyone turned to my mother.

"Um... well all of you. But she made several posters of just Lance."

"Speaking of Lance, where did he go?" asked JC from behind Lisa as Devin reached out for him.

****

"I know that Mel says that you can't speak your mind, but will you tell me something?"

"What?" I asked causiously.

"You had posters of me all over? The night you acted as if you didn't like me, why?"

I sighed. Thanks alot David. "Yes, I did have posters all over. I'm suprised you didn't see them when you dropped me off at home. As for liking you," I paused. This is so hard.

Lance leaned in and whispered, "Yeah?"

"I do. The reason I freaked out is cause I've never had the whole closeness stuff."

"But what about your boyfriend?"

"Four years... and most of it if not all, was long-distance."

He seemed to think about this for a moment. "Oh, bummer."

I sat up and sighed. He rested his hands on my back.

"You ok?" he asked with some concern.

"Yeah, I'll live. I still hate my brother."

"Can I ask you a question?" He asked as a nodded. "Did you have any horrible pictures of me?"

I laughed and he smiled. "Lance, no picture of you is horrible."

Oh my god, did I just say that?

"Laura, wake up. We're here," Justin said shaking her awake.

"Go away," She snapped.

"Come on, a nice comfy bed is calling your name."

"Where?" Laura said, with her eyes still closed.

"Inside the hotel room," he said trying to drag her to her feet.

"Ok," she said, letting him pull her up.

"Laura," said Lance as he opened the door.

"Hey, what's up?" I asked.

"I have a surprise for you."

"Lance--"

"No, don't say it. Dave told me how long it's been since you seen some of your family. So I rented out the skating rink for a type of family reunion."

"Lance," I said breathlessly. "You didn't?"

He just nodded and smiled. "Tomorrow night. I already talked to your grandparents and your cousin Tabitha. Is there anyone else you'd like to invite?"

"Well, yeah but I don't want to--"

"Laura, you can invite as many people as you want." He said looking at me with his smile that, now, he knew I couldn't resist.

"Laura? Is that you?" Granny asked as she opened the door to find Lance and Laura standing on the other side.

"Hey Granny," Laura said as she gave her a big hug.

"What are you doing here? Phil told me you were here for a few days." she said letting the two in.

"Remember you're coming to the party tonight?"

"Yeah," she glared at Lance.

"Oh sorry, Granny this is Lance. Lance this is Granny, everyone calles her that."

"Hello Granny," he said politely.

"Are you two hungry?"

"Oh, I'll get it Granny." The younger girl said, standing up getting her a carton of yogurt.

As Laura sat it down Granny looked at her. She got up and pulled out two more spoons and a bowl. She scooped out about half of the yogurt and placed it in front of the two sitting across from her.

"Thank you," Laura said as she glanced at a confused Lance. "When I was little we always shared a yogurt everyday."

"So Laura, is this your husband?" she asked while eating the blueberry flavored substance.
