chapter four

"Now, you wanna go inside and play video games?"
"Yeah!" Jon said excitedly. We went inside and sat down on the couch.
"Before we start playing I think this calls for a celebration. How about some ice cream?" I asked.
"Alright! My mommy should have a baby everyday!" I laughed and made two ice cream sundaes.
"After you finish I challenge you to Deathmatch 2000!" I said.
"O-K!" he cheered. He finished his ice cream and I popped the game cartridge into the slot.
"Prepare to be pulverized!" I said as we started the game.
"Deathmatch....2000!!" the announcer said. Jon had won 3 games and I had won 2.
"O.k.," I said. "Gamepoint. If you win this game you win the whole tournament, but if I win then we have a supreme tiebreaker, ok?"
"O.k. Let's go already!" I pressed start. In no time I was already down by 75% of my life span.
"Uh-oh! Oh no!.....Ha ha! I got away," I was yelling. Just then I heard someone come through the front door.
"Mom? Dad? Jon? Is anyone here?" It was a guy's voice. I paused the game and looked around the corner. It was a guy about 16 or 17. He had blond, curly hair and was very cute. All of a sudden Jon came up behind me.
"Justin!" he cried and ran toward the stranger.
"Hey ya Jon! It's so good to see you buddy!" he said as he picked Jon up and swung him around. He stopped mid-swing when he saw me. There was an awkward silence.
"Hi," I said breaking it. "I'm Shannon, Jon's babysitter."
"Oh, I'm Justin, Jon's older brother." I stepped forward and shook his hand. He had a firm grip.
"Where's my mom? Is she alright? I rushed here as soon as I could because I heard she was in the hospital."
"Yeah, I'm sure she's doing fine. But she's having the baby!"
"Oh my gosh, c'mon, we better go."
"I should really wait here for my mom," I said.
"Oh, c'mon, I'll give you a ride." How could I refuse those crystal blue eyes?
"Alright," I said. "Let's go."
