chapter two
When Justin came out of the bathroom, dressed,
he was surprised to find everyone asleep. "Ha, party poopers," Justin
chuckled to himself and grabbed his car keys. He walked out of the house and got
into his car. He felt like driving to the beach. He didn't know why, but he
needed to go there. In a matter of fifteen minutes, he arrived at the beach and
parked his car. He took his shoes off in the car and walked barefoot onto the
beach.
The sand felt soft and warm under his feet as he walked to the shoreline. He
strolled slowly, letting the small waves break on his feet. It was so relaxing
to walk along the beach at night. Justin sighed and sat down on the warm sand,
the water almost close enough to touch him, but not quite. He was not sure how
long he had been sitting there on the beach, when he heard a small voice.
"Hey."
Justin's head quickly turned around to see a girl sitting beside him...the girl.
"Did I startle you? I didn't mean to," she looked down at the sand and
brushed her long hair behind her ears.
Justin shook his head, his eyes wide. "No, you didn't startle me. I was
just caught up in my thoughts," he explained.
"I know. I come here to think about things a lot. It's very soothing,"
the girl smiled at Justin. "But..." she began. "You know it's
considered trespassing to be here after dusk?" she smiled slyly.
"That makes it all the better," he grinned mischievously.
"My name's Emily," the girl introduced herself.
"It's nice to meet you Emily," Justin put out his hand.
Emily bit her lip. "I don't like to shake hands," she chuckled as
Justin pulled his hand back. "Do you have a name?"
"You mean you don't know who I am?" Justin raised his brow and stared
at her.
She stared back questioningly. "Am I supposed to?"
"Umm, no. I'm Justin." There was a moment of silence between the two.
"Aren't the stars beautiful?" Justin asked as he looked up into the
sky.
"Yeah...I used to believe that there was a heaven up there..." Emily's
voice trailed off and a small smile appeared on her face. "I know it sounds
stupid, but I used to believe that's where you go when you die...up in the
stars-" she paused. "But not anymore," her expression quickly
changed and a frown took over her face.
"How come you don't believe that anymore?" Justin asked curiously.
"I guess you can say it was a change of mind..." her voice drifted
off. "I know this may seem like a really weird question, but there isn't
another person sitting next to me that you're talking to, right?" Emily
looked at him shyly.
That is a really weird question, Justin thought to himself. "Nope, it's
only me and you babe." A huge smile spread across Emily's face and Justin
noticed two small dimples appear. There was something weird...different about
Emily, Justin observed. Maybe it was her dark hair and eyes that stood out
drastically because of her pale complexion, or maybe it was because of her
strange questions, or maybe it was th eway she stared at him...so intense, so
hypnotic, so deep and dark, or maybe it was the way she would appear out of
nowhere and disappear at the snap of a finger.
