chapter three

Then the phone began to ring.

"I've got it!" Julie yelled as she picked it up.

"Hello," she answered.

"Hi Juls. It's me, Liz," she said.

"Hey girl. What's up?" Julie asked.

"Oh nothing. I figured I'd call you since Kev's still sleeping," Liz said.

"You better yell at that boy. He comes home and all he does is sleep," Julie said.

"Oh no, it's okay. We had our fun last night, so the poor baby is tired," Liz said.

"Oh okay. I understand," Julie said.

"So have you told Brian?" Liz asked.

"Yeah. I told him last night," Julie replied.

"What was his reaction?" Liz questioned.

"At first he just stared at me, but then he wrapped his arms around me. He was so ecstatic," Julie said happily.

"I knew he would be. He's practically a kid himself," Liz said.

"Yeah, he is," Julie said as she laughed. "He wanted to tell eveyone last night, but I told him no. So we're having a barbecue later this evening."

"We're invited?" Liz asked.

"Of course you are. Your hubby is cooking, since Brian says it's his job to grill," Julie said.

"Oh that's sweet of Brian to volunteer Kevin. I'm sure he'll be happy. So who else is coming?" Liz asked.

"Just you and the guys," Julie said.

"Need me to bring anything?" Liz asked.

"If you could make a potato salad that'd be great," Julie said.

"Sure," Liz said.

"Thanks. I'll see you about five o'clock then," Julie said.

"Okay five o'clock. Bye Juls," Liz said.

"Bye Liz," Julie said as she hung up.

As she put the phone down Brian walked up to her.

"Who was that?" he asked.

"Liz. She wanted to know what we were up to," Julie said.

"Did you invite her and Kev over for dinner later?" Brian asked.

"Yeah. I told her about five o'clock," she said.

"Okay, that sounds good," he said.

Then he grabbed a blanket and set it outside underneath their tree. He walked back in the house to find Julie on the phone again.

"Okay, bye Nick. See you in a while," Julie said as she hung up the phone.

"Did you call all of them?" Brian asked.

"I got a hold of Nick, but not Howie and A.J.. I just left them a message," Julie said.

"Okay," he said. "Let's go outside now," he said as he picked up a notebook and pen.

She got up and took Brian's hand. Then they walked outside.

They enjoyed the beautiful weather in the arms of one another. Julie read her book while Brian jotted down ideas for their next album. Then Brian got tired of writing so he set his notebook down. He began to kiss Julie's neck. Julie smiled and set her book down. Then she titled her head allowing Brian better access.

"I love your soft kisses," Julie said as he continued to kiss her.

"I love you," Brian said.

Liz and Kevin walked up to Brian's house and rang the doorbell. No one answered, so they knocked on the door. Then Kevin decided to get the key and open the door. Liz and Kevin walked into the empty house and set down the food.

"Yo cuz, we're here!" yelled Kevin. There was no answer. "Where are those two?"

"Out back maybe," Liz suggtested. She grabbed Kevin's hand and they walked out back.

They smiled as they saw Brian and Julie.

"Hey! Newlyweds!" Kevin yelled.

"We're here!" Liz said happily.

Julie and Brian looked at their friends and blushed.

"Maybe we should come back another time," Liz said to Kevin.

"Yeah, they seem a little preoccupied," Kevin said.

Brian and Julie got up and walked over to their friends. Liz and Brian hugged each other while Kevin and Julie hugged each other.

"It's good to see you, Kevin," Julie said.

"You too," he said. "So where's the food?"

"This guy has been dying for a hamburger," Liz said.

"Well...get started," Brian said.

"Oh yeah, babe. I forgot to tell you that you're grilling," Liz said.

"Thanks for telling me now," he said as he began to pout. Liz kissed him and he smiled.

"Oh, do you want me to kiss you too, Kevy?" Brian asked Kevin in a babyish voice.

"No, stay away from me. That's what your wife is for," Kevin said.

"Oh yeah, that's right," Brian said as he wrapped his arms around Julie.

"Come on guys. Let's go inside," Julie said as she smiled.

The four of them walked inside. Julie got the meat out for Kevin. Brian and Kevin took it and went outside to light the grill. Julie went around the kitchen gathering food and drinks.
