chapter thirteen
"What is it this time?" Lance asked looking at the three laughing.
"It was the funniest thing i have ever seen," Amanda said and looked
over at Jc.
"Jc was talking ot these girls and he was trying ot be all smooth. He went
down to sit on the bench and missed the bench and landed on the edge of one of
those fountains that have all the water in them. He lost his balance once he
fell and went backwards into the water. He was soaking wet and, had to buy some
new clothes to put on. It was so hilarious." Justin explained.
"I guess you had to be there," Jessica guessed.
"Guess so," Amanda said and smiled at her, and rolled her eyes.
"Jc. you really know how to impress the ladies," Joey laughed.
"It was not funny at all,"Jc defended.
"Yes it was," Amanda said and looked at him.

"Amanda," Justin said reaching for something balled up in his cargo
pocket. "Do you remember that shirt you liked But you didnt want to buy it
because it was to much money?" Justin asked her.
"Yeah why?"
"Well, its kinda like a you know I missed you while I was gone and uh best
friend gift," He said and and handed her the yellow shirt.
"Oh Justin you shouldnt have really. But, when did you have time to buy it
we were together thw whole time." Amanda remembered.
"The whole time except for my sudden trip to the bathroom." He pointed
out and then Amanda smiled.
"Thank you so much,
"No problem,"

"Do you wanna come in for awhile?" amanda asked as they pulled up to
her driveway.
"I cant. have to go to pick up my little brothers. Lisa has to work."
"Oh ok. Well I'll talk to ya later.Thank you again." Amanda said and
got out of the car. She waved goodbye and went into the house. "Mom, I'm
home!" She yelled and saw her mom sitting at the table reading a booklet.
"Mom, whats that?" She asked and her mom handed it to her. On the
cover it said A Step Forward.
"I picked up and i really think you should consider it." She said
slowly.
"A camp?"
"Yes. Its not really a camp. Its for 3 months and you would be with other
kids you age who also have to deal with a disease of some sort. there is docters
there, and they will check up on you daily. It would be great experience for
you."
"Mom. no absolutley not! I do not want to go to....It is in California,
away from all my friends. I wont know anybody and your just going to send me
there all by myself...no friends no anything how could you even think of doing
that?" Amanda shouted, her mind racing and tears were spilling out.
"I just think it will be good for you. A time were we could all get
ourselves together from all this mess and get our life back on track."
"Get our life back on track? You mean send me away so you can forget about
my leukimia and leave me to face it everyday. Send me away, and let me die at
some camp. Sorounded by sick people, that are suffering and probally dont want
to be there. Oh yeah mom that will help me a whole lot." Amanda cried.
"Amanda, I dont like your tone of voice," her mom said and you could
tell it was tearing her apart to se her daughter like this but she stood firm.
"And I dont like being sick and getting pricked with needles, and knowing
my whole life is in a doctors hands. You wanting to send me to some camp for
sick people. You know mom, what i want is support not to be icelated. Seperated
from my friends family and the rest of the world. Trapped at some camp and
knowing that I could die any day. Knowing that if I catch a common cold it could
be the end of me. Personally i dont like that at all mom."
"I want you to think about it. I am not trying to alienate you or anything
amanda. I love you and just want whats best for you. You know that." Her
mom said an her voice started to crack. Tears rimmed her eyes.
"I thought you did, but Im just not to sure now." Amanda said and ran
to her room. She slammed the door and locked it. Hot tears of furry continued to
run down her face and she was shaking. She layed down across her bed and burried
her head in her pillow.
