Animal Speak
---Bold Self-Expression and Reliance ---

A
     badger Sett

"I would ask you to remember only this one thing," said Badger."The stories that people tell have a way of taking care of them.
If stories come to you, care for  them and learn to give them away where they are needed.  Sometimes a person needs a story more than food to stay alive.  That is why we put these stories in each others memory.  This is how people care for themselves."

"The Badger is the keeper of stories.  The badger's  jaws are the symbols of powerful expression. This ties the badger to the mysteries of the 'word', particularly the magic of storytelling.  A remarkable digger, it hints at the ability of the badger to see beneath the surface of all things and people.  It lives in an underground complex of burrows that are called 'earths'.  These earths hint at stories beneath the outer, the inner places, and homes of the outer world.  It is often easier for those with badger medicine to relate through stories than to have to do it directly.  It speaks of a time to begin to tell a new story about yourself and your life."

LaLonnie Wood-Scott

Welcome to the Closet Poet web-site.

I hope that the poems here may inspire you to write and express your own feelings and experiences.

Lalonnie In 1993, I started writing down some private poems. Words would come to me, I would write them down, and then I would put them away. In 2002, I decided to be brave and share "Forest" with some of my friends.
They encouraged me to share more of my poetry with them. Later that year I started a poetry sharing group for shy novice poets like myself. I hoped to gain enough confidence sharing with the group to be ready to give a reading in public. In February 2003, I will be giving a public reading of my poetry in Fernie, BC, Canada.

I have produced both a large and small booklet collection of my poems and will be selling them at the public reading and on this web-site. I am contributing $1.00 from the sale of each large booklet and $.50 from the sale of each small booklet to the Elk Valley Family Society, a non-profit organization of volunteers, which offers a second stage (longer term) housing service for women and their children leaving homes of domestic violence. Private funding has become necessary for this worthy, and unfortunately, necessary, service as public funding has been drastically reduced.
Thank you for visiting this site.

Blessings,
LaLonnie
