Statement written by Caroline Sutton: re alleged Dog Wood sighting, Knutsford, Cheshire

Sunday 20th February / Monday 1st March 1999

Royal George Hotel, Knutsford

we had been out down the road in a pub down King Street (approx 100 yrds from Hotel) we returned to the hotel room at approx 10.50pm (Sun night). Once in the room we opened a bottle of wine and pulled up two chairs in front of the window.

The curtains were open and so was the window. We had a clear view overlooking the Moor area.

Approximately 10 minutes had gone by at this stage and I (Caroline) commented on a bright orange light that was above the trees. With watching this light it appeared to grow bigger and brighter and almost into a 'star' shape and it was Completely silent. It began to Slowly manovere down towards the ground, in amongst the trees. This object moved cautiously and very slowly (approx 2 - 3 minutes to land). just before the object touched down, above the trees another light appeared out of nowhere followed by a red beam that shot up out from the trees, up towards the sky. This light was glowing white and whilst watching it mesmerised, this light changed into a glowing orange fire ball then star shape (almost identical to the previous object). It began to move down to the ground amongst the trees and with doing so another white light appeared and changed into the orange glowing star (like previously) and also made its way down to the ground.

A fourth light appeared and at this stage we were frantic. I (Caroline) had put my coat on and was basically out the door as quick as a flash. Graham and I left the room in the state that it was in (i. e. lights on, windows open), grabbed the car keys and torch and went running out into the hotel car park and got into Graham's car. Our only regret at this time is that we did not have a Camera on board.

Basically because we did not know the area, we were trying to pinpoint how to get to this site. we headed off in the car in what we thought was the correct / approx direction. It appeared that we had gone out mobberley / Ashley way (this is a guess as we were only glancing at signposts! ). we came past a huge field (i. e. farmers land) and I (Caroline) glanced round to my left and saw an orange light in the sky. we stopped the car and pulled into an entrance (like a tractors entrance to the field). we both got out, Graham carrying the torch and went up approx 150 metres across the field, eyes focused on this amazing light which just seemed to get bigger and brighter. The adrenalin was pumping and basically we could not believe what we were seeing. on watching this object cruise down to earth in amongst the trees, another white light appeared out of nowhere and changed into the glowing orange light and began to cruise down to the ground following its friend. we decided at this point to get back into the car and make tracks back to the hotel as we did not know the area and were not sure how to get to where this event was taking place. we drove around at this point until we found signs for Knutsford. It had began to rain at this stage and within 15 minutes approx we arrived back at the hotel. it was now 12.05 (monday 1st March) and we discovered that we were now locked out of the hotel due to the fact that the night porter does not work on Sunday evenings.

we hammered on doors and finally after 40 minutes or so we got back into the hotel up through the staffs quarters and with this went charging into the bedroom, straight to the window to see there in the sky another orange glowing light. It landed like the others, very cautiously. On looking at the wooded area we could see all the lights very clearly. Some glowing more than others and lights in different shapes / sizes, even some small red lights, lights that were going out and then appearing again, we could just not believe what we were witnessing. Sitting there in complete silence, completely "mesmerised". We must have sat there for another 45 minutes approx and in that time witnessed no more landings. Then all of a sudden another white light appeared out of nowhere above the trees and turned into an orange glow then star shape and cruised to the ground (this one moved quicker than the previous ones). By this stage we estimate it must have been almost 2am. we just sat there studying the lights in the trees, the positions of them and their behaviour. we were absolutely shattered and cold, (obviously with the window wide open) but undeterred we continued to watch the sky and lights / objects on the ground.

By 2.45 we thought it may be a good idea to try and get some sleep but we just did not want to miss anything, so left the window open and also the curtains. I (Caroline) went into the bathroom and Graham got into bed still keeping his eyes on the sky. I heard Graham yell "Quick Caroline, quick, look, look - I went racing back into the bedroom to the window and there was another orange glowing light above the trees. we both sat there (AGAIN) watching this object land - it must have been about 3.15am. Still sat at the window with the duvet wrapped round us freezing to death another 20 minutes went by and we got into bed (but sat up, staring out of the window and watching the lights on the ground.

Another 15 minutes went by approx, bringing the time up to 3.45 am. I was staring at the sky and we both just talked about the event and then all of a sudden another white light appeared and turned to orange as the others did, changed into the star shape and came down to earth. we were now again at the window and shortly after that landing got back into bed and tried to do our best to relax, as we were both so tired and exhausted with the shock and excitement. The time by now had gone 4am and the lights were still on the ground, we lay down, closed our eyes and did not really sleep, it was more a case of "dozing".

We kept checking in the early hours of the morning to see that the lights were still evident - which they were!!

At 7am we checked again - the lights had gone - we don't know how or where.

As requested this is our account of what we witnessed Sunday 28th February + Monday 1st March 1999. over approx an 8 hour period.

There have been times when we wish we had never seen them as the whole amazing event just won't go away - we think about it all the time, although we do realise how lucky we have been to witness something very special!

we also witnessed lights in the sky that were much more higher up on Tuesday 2nd march 1999, at approx 8-10 p.m.

(Statement signed by both Caroline Sutton and Graham Wenham, and dated 3/3/99.)

(Two drawings of the "sighting area", by Sutton and Wenham, were also received by BUFOSC. The following footnote was written on Graham Wenham's drawing)

Grahams rough drawing of the lights he saw on the ground. Graham was sat on the right Caroline on the left. Drawings differ Somewhat due to angles?? or that we both just saw different lights on the ground?

(A further drawing describing the lights allegedly seen by the two witnesses was also submitted to BUFOSC. Accompanying text from this is quoted below. This was also signed and dated by the two "witnesses".)

THIS IS HOW THE OBJECTS FIRST APPEARED WHITE LIGHT IN THE SKY (not black edge as drawn)

THE OBJECT TURNED INTO A GLOWING ORANGE FIREBALL THAT HAD RAYS COMING OFF IT, AND HAD INCREASED IN SIZE.

THIS IS BASICALLY THE BEST DESCRIPTION DRAWN THAT WE CAN GIVE OF THIS OBJECT AS IT WAS COMING DOWN TO EARTH GLOWING ORANGE / GOLD. 9 OF THESE THINGS LANDED FROM WHAT WE SAW ANYWAY OVER THE 7 / 8 HOUR PERIOD.

(The above statement and appendices were copy-typed by Carolyn Buckley, incorporating all Caroline Sutton's original wording, spelling and punctuation for reference purposes. These are not typographical errors and should not be altered in any way if this document is passed on.)
