Yesterday
by the Beatles
Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they're here to stay
Oh, I believe in yesterday.
Suddenly, I'm not half the man I used to be,
There's a shadow hanging over me.
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.
Why she had to go I don't know she wouldn't say.
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday.
Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play.
Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.
Mm mm mm mm mm.

This song describes Heathcliff's thoughts as he left Wuthering Heights that stormy night after hearing about Catherine's marriage to Linton.
Hopelessly Devoted To You
By Olivia Newton-John
Guess mine is not the first heart broken
My eyes are not the first to cry
But not the first to know
There's just no getting over you
I know I'm just a fool who's willing
To sit around and wait for you
But baby can't you see
There's nothing else for me to do
I'm hopelessly devoted to you
But now there's no where to hide
Since you've pushed my love aside
I'm out of my head hopelessly devoted
To you
Hopelessly devoted to you
Hopelessly devoted to you
My head is saying fool forget him
My heart is saying is don't let go
Hold on to the end, and that's what I indent to do
I'm hopelessly devoted to you
But now there's no where to hide
Since you've pushed my love aside
I'm out of my head hopelessly devoted
To you
Hopelessly devoted to you
Hopelessly devoted to you

The words of Olivia Newton John, could possibly convey the same feelings as Isabella felt the night she left Heathcliff. She was struck with the harsh realization that her devotion to him, meant nothing to him. She discovered that she was just a pawn in his catastrophic plan. Yet, she still feels sorrow for the love she lost (her first love)
End of the Innocence
Remember when the days were long
And rolled beneath a deep blue sky
Didn't have a care in the world
With mommy and daddy standin' by
But "happily ever after" fails
And we've been poisoned by these fairy tales
The lawyers dwell on small details
Since daddy had to fly
But I know a place where we can go
That's still untouched by men
We'll sit and watch the clouds roll by
And the tall grass wave in the wind
You can lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair fall all around me
Offer up your best defense
But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence
O' beautiful, for spacious skies
But now those skies are threatening
They're beating plowshares into swords
For this tired old man that we elected king
Armchair warriors often fail
And we've been poisoned by these fairy tales
The lawyers clean up all details
Since daddy had to lie
But I know a place where we can go
And wash away this sin
We'll sit and watch the clouds roll by
And the tall grass wave in the wind
Just lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair spill all around me
Offer up your best defense
But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence
Who knows how long this will last
Now we've come so far, so fast
But, somewhere back there in the dust
That same small town in each of us
I need to remember this
So baby give me just one kiss
And let me take a long last look
Before we say goodbye
Just lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair fall all around me
Offer up your best defense
But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence

These words could possibly be the thoughts of Heathcliff on the day of Catherine's funeral. As he sits out doors and strolls along the places familiar to him from his childhood, he feels a sudden sadness. A case of nostalgia sweeps over him as he longs for the days when Catherine and him played and loved innocently at these same places. Then he begins to concentrate on the idea that one day they will be together forever somewhere beautiful and peaceful.
