Bright Angel
Chapter 18

Melissa: After turning the key in the lock and stepping through the door and into the kitchen, I yelled, “Pizza’s here,” a sound that was soon after followed by the sound of feet running down the stairs accompanied by laughter. “Finally, I’m so hungry,” Zac exclaimed taking note of the pizza box on the kitchen counter. After stocking up on plates, napkins, cups, sweet tea and anything else we thought of, we migrated back into the bonus room and debated over another movie. We finally settled on “Meet Joe Black”, another movie that produced tears and laughter from Hillary at my expense. I thought that it was my idealistic and hopeless romantic nature, which provoked the tears. It was that storybook romance I had always dreamed of, and that sympathy for tragedy. But maybe that kind of fantasy was finally happening, I thought as I curled up with Taylor on the comfy white couch. When the movie was over, we decided that Taylor should take the guestroom in the basement, leaving Zac with my brother’s room. Then, we went to our separate parts of the house after saying goodnight. “So,” Hillary said after shutting the door to my room, “you two seem to be closer than ever.” “I guess so,” I giggled thinking about how great I felt consumed by that warm tingly feeling. “That was some kiss out at the dock tonight,” Hillary brought up the starry night. I couldn’t help but laugh, but I didn’t say anything. I couldn’t describe how I felt about him, but it was definitely love and something I hadn’t felt before. “Hill, it’s kinda weird isn’t it? Me actually finding a guy that likes me, moreover, falling for him in less than 2 days.” She laughed, “Yea, that is kind of odd.” “I’ve never felt this way before though,” I confided. “Do you think it’s…,” I continued. “love? That’s for you to decide.” “I’m starting to think so, Hill. The moment I saw him, I was filled with this unexplainable emotion. Maybe it was love at first sight.” “Well, it hasn’t happened to me yet, but I think there’s a possibility.” “Yea…,” I sighed with a smile as I hit the lights and we climbed into bed. “Goodnight and sweet dreams,” she whispered with a yawn. “Goodnight,” I muttered. I attempted to get some sleep, but didn’t have much luck, for my mind was filled with thoughts of Taylor and nothing else. I feared that when I woke up it would all be gone, a dream, just a figment of my imagination and the result of too much stargazing.
