Bright Angel
Chapter 17

Hillary: While Melissa was getting the thumbs up from her parents, the rest of us had food on our minds. After finally settling on Pizza Hut, we placed the order and watched the clock till Melissa was off the phone 5 minutes later. “So, we can stay?,” Taylor asked with a worried look in his crystal blue eyes. “Yea, took a while, but I finally got an ‘ok’,” she told him, then asked, “So did ya’ll decide on anything?” “Yea, we ordered Pizza Hut. I figured that it wasn’t too far, I mean, it’ll only take you…what…15 minutes to get there and back,” I filled her in as she stood next to Taylor with her hands in her pockets and a grin on her face. “So, I’m guessing it’ll be ready by the time I get there, right?” “Shouldn’t be a problem, at least that’s what I was told.” “Ok, I guess I better head on over there now. Wanna come?,” she said looking in Taylor’s direction. “Yea,” he pushed a few strands of the blonde hair out of his face and the two of them headed for the door. “So, I guess its just you and me then,” Zac looked at me with those mischievous eyes I had began to become so fond of. “I guess so,” I returned the same look as he walked over to put his arms around me and kiss me once more. The perfect romantic moment was cut short with the sound of a garage door opening and the front door bringing in the sound of footsteps. “I guess not,” I said looking a bit upset about the interruption. “Hi, Hillary,” Mrs. Ather said from the kitchen. “Hi, Mrs. Ather. Melissa and Taylor went to pick up the pizza, they should be back soon.”
Melissa: As the garage door when up and we stepped into the thick blanket of night once more, the cold wind snapped at my shoulders and I involuntarily resorted to rubbing the warmth back into them. We climbed into the car and as soon as I turned the key, the music Hillary and I had been listening to earlier came blaring out at us at full force causing both of us to jump at the same time. “Ok, that’s a bit too loud and it’s a bit too early for a police call,” I hit the FM button. And as the car started down the driveway, I got a bit caught up in the music, starting to sing the words forgetting who was in the seat next to me. I finally remembered and looking around me abruptly ended my embarrassment. “Why’d ya stop? You’re really good,” Taylor laughed at my blushing face. “No, I’m not.” “Yes, you are, you’ve got an amazing gift. You could do a lot with a voice like that.” “I wish.” “You could get signed so easily, you sound beautiful.” “Thank you, its all I’ve ever wanted to do,” I was so flattered. I wasn’t just that he thought I was good, he thought I was better then good, and that in itself was totally surreal. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. “I think you should go for it.” “Well, thanks, it means a lot coming from someone like you,” I flashed him a smile through my red blushing face. Right then another song, I loved came on the radio and once again, I got sucked in. I responded in the same way again, backing off the song once I became aware of my surroundings. He laughed again, “If you wanna sing, then sing. Don’t mind me.” “Oh, come on, I’m not all that good,” I stated my case with a nervous giggle. “Yes, you are. You don’t give yourself enough credit. You’re a beautiful girl with a beautiful voice. What’s so wrong with telling my girlfriend she has a beautiful voice.” I just about had a heart attack. I looked in his direction with a kind of grin. “Girlfriend?,” I asked him. “Um…if you wanna be,” he told me. “Of course, I do,” I gave him a smile and shut the car door. As he opened the door to Pizza Hut, I felt his hand on the small of my back. I felt his warm breath whisper in my ear, “You’re my angel.”
