The District of Columbia Space Grant Consortium (DCSGC) is one of 52 members of a national network encompassing over 1200 universities and organizations in every state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The Space Grant Program was authorized by federal legislation in 1987 and is administered by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The lead office of the DCSGC is at American University. From its location in Washington, D.C., the nation's capital, the DCSGC utilizes the city's rich and unique resources. Washington is the center of power in the U.S. government, and is home to NASA Headquarters, the Smithsonian Institution, and many other space, science, and education associations and organizations. Annual meetings of the National Space Grant Council are hosted in Washington, D.C. by the DCSGC. Founded in 1991, the DCSGC shares the excitement and understanding of space and science among scientists, educators, students, and the general public. Our educational programs, activities, and publications are supported by NASA, DCSGC member institutions, and various federal, non-federal, corporate, and non-profit contributors. The members of the DCSGC are American University, Gallaudet University, George Washington University, Howard University, INSPIRE Project, Inc., NASA Alumni League, S.M.A.R.T., Raytheon ITSS, and the University of the District of Columbia.
