“Well, I’ll be damned...”

( ( Chapter 1 ) )

“Min,” Yoonshi coughed. He blinked his eyes, trying to get rid of the blurry images that he saw. He once again called out hoarsely to his son, wanting to see him one last time before he goes.

“Appa!” came Min’s frightened, yet urgent, voice. “Appa!”

A hand found his arm and he knew it was Min. Only Min had those small hands of his mother. “Min...”

“Appa! Appa, don’t worry. I’ll save you. I’ll save you!”

Yoonshi shook his head. “Don’t bother. This whole ship is now under Kyungchi’s power, there’s no way anybody would listen to you.”

“But Appa! I can’t let you die! I can’t let him send you away! Appa!”

“Min. Listen to me. Don’t try to help me when you can’t. That’s the number one rule about living on a ship full of men. Always watch your back and take care of yourself. Never for anyone else, understand?”

“But - ”

Yoonshi continued on, despite the protests. “Now...remember. If you must help someone and when you can’t. You can’t. Stop right there. Plot on revenge. Hear?” He clasped a hand over the small one on his arm and shook it. In the dark, he could make out tears rolling off the beautiful cheeks of his son. He saw his son nod and brush the tears away. It was something to be proud of. His son, seventeen, mother-less, has never shed a single tear in his life. If he was to, he would make sure it was brief so he wouldn’t let his emotions run high.

“Appa...here,” Min whispered. He reached inside his shirt and pulled out a few buns and a canteen of water. “Eat, Appa. I got food.”

Yoonshi shook his head again. “There’s no point of going on.”

“But Appa! Do you have any idea how hard I tried to sneak down here?! Please and just eat. For me?”

Yoonshi just wanted to slay his men. They had put his son in such a position he wasn’t even sure if his son would be safe on his own father’s ship. They wouldn’t do anything right at the moment but once they turn him in...Anything could happen to Min.

“Please Appa? At least have enough strength to run when I come and save you.”

Yoonshi nodded and took the bun. He stuffed it down his throat, the sweet aroma so-ever inviting. He vowed silently to himself. If he was to ever meet Chaeli again in Heaven, he would have to thank her. She gave him so much and a beautiful son. One too many.

“Appa...here’s some water. I’ll try and get more when I come back. But I have to go now before they notice I’m gone.” Min turned to leave.

“Min...” Yoonshi put down the bun he was chewing on.

“Yes, Appa?”

“Take this.” Yoonshi ripped off his boot and pulled out a small knife. He tossed it to the curious child and quickly put his shoe back on. “Use it. I won’t be there when you need me. Be careful.”

Min clutched the weapon to his chest and nodded. He hid the small tool in the waistband of his pants and snuck out of the prison cell. He glanced sideways and calmly stalked away. Out into the bright morning sun.
