Edwards" Subject: "You Can't Do That" by the Beatles This is my first tab attempt, and I'm not even close to being an amateur guitarist. If you spot any faults, please let me know. I picked up the opening riff for "You Can't Do That" while I was strumming my six-string. It's nylon-strung, which may also contribute to it sounding a little different. SONG: You Can't Do That (opening riff) ARTIST: The Beatles AUTHORS: John Lennon and Paul McCartney ALBUM: A Hard Day's Night (1964) TRANSCRIBED BY: Paul Edwards I believe the opening riff is somewhat of a fret-string reversal to the riff of "Enter Sandman" by Metallica. |----------------------| |----------------------| |----------------------| |---1--0-1---1-1---0-1-| |-2--2-----2-----2-----| |----------------------| I did notice the chord version of this song already posted in the OLGA, and it probably already has a better version of the song. I downloaded Jim's version and transposed into the key of G used on the Anthology album. I also added some bluesy 11ths and 9ths which give the Beatles that bluesy rock sound. The Beatles also played this in F# in the opening segment of the movie A Hard Day's Night. A great song that I have just rediscovered. Enjoy!
