14/09/01 - Sandrine Testud(2) defeated Alina Jidkova 6:2 6:4. Alina defeated two excellent players to get here, but she could not defeat Sandrine. Testud is obviously playing very well, continuing her momentum from an excellent hardcourt season. For the third time, Sandrine won in straight sets. She will play against either Marissa Irvin or the #7 seed Meilen Tu. Sandrine has a 1-0 record against Meilen and she has never faced Marissa.

11/09/01 - Sandrine Testud(2) defeated Anca Barna 6:2 7:5. A nice solid win for Sandrine. Anca is a very tough player, and the first round is usually very tough for a seeded player. Sandrine will play against Katarina Srebotnik in the secound round. Katarina almost defeated Nathalie Tauziat last week in the US Open.

04/09/01 - Sandrine will be playing in Hawaii next week. She will be the #2 seed, behind Justine Henin. Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario and Lisa Raymond are the #3 and #4 seeds.

02/09/01 - Venus Williams(4) defeated Sandrine Testud(18) 6:4 6:0. Venus Williams played a very solid match and was too much for Sandrine. Sandrine led 4:2 in the first set, but after that, she never won another game.

31/08/01 - Sandrine Testud(18) defeated Maja Matevzik 6:2 6:0. Sandrine played a very solid match. Maja is a future top 50 player, and already defeating Silvia Farina Elia to get here that she is probably thrilled that she got this far and did not attempt to threaten Sandrine. Another amazing run for Sandrine in the final grandslam of the year.

29/08/01 - Sandrine Testud(18) defeated Gala Leon Garcia 5:7 6:4 6:4. This was probably one of the best matches so far in the tournament. Gala posed a huge threat for Sandrine, with her amazing finesse play, Gala moved Sandrine all around the court. If it wasn't for Sandrine's amazing serve, she probably would've lost. Sandrine will now play against Maja Matevzik.

27/08/01 - Sandrine Testud(18) defeated Nina Dubbers 6:3 6:2. Nina is a future top 100 player, but Sandrine was just too much for the qualifier. She served really well, had a lot of winners and looked really confortable in her first round match. Sandrine plays against Gala Leon Garcia in the second round.

21/08/01 - Sandrine Testud defeated Laura Granville before falling to Venus Williams in straight sets. Sandrine will now head to the US Open for the final grand slam of the year.

19/08/01 - Sandrine is competing in New Haven this week. She is up against Laura Granville, a young American who received a wild card into the main draw. If Sandrine advances past Laura, she will face defending champion Venus Williams(3) in the second round.

17/08/01 - I am back home. Once again, Sandrine is having an excellent hard court season. She has advanced to the quarterfinals in two of her three tournaments and she came within two points of defeating both Linsday Davenport and Monica Seles. All the results from San Diego, Los Angeles, and Toronto can be found in the results section below.

26/07/01 - Sandrine will be competing in San Diego. I will be going to the tournament. I will update everything when I get back, plus the pictures will be added to the webpage. Allez Sandrine and good luck.

20/07/01 - Sandrine Testud and Amelie Mauresmo won both of their singles matches, which resulted in France winning 4-1 over Italy in the quarterfinals of Fed Cup. France only lost their doubles match. Sandrine defeated Maria Elena Camerin 6:3 6:1 and she defeated Adriana Serra-Zanetti 6:4 7:5.

11/07/01 - Sandrine will be playing Fed Cup in two weeks. The team for France is Amelie Mauresmo, Sandrine Testud, Nathalie Dechy, and Virginie Razzano. They are up against Italy. Testud and Mauresmo should play singles.

01/07/01 - Jennifer Capriati(4) defeated Sandrine Testud(15) 6:1 6:2. It was one of those days for Sandrine. For the first time in this tournament, she had more unforced errors than winners. However, Jennifer played a superb match.

29/06/01 - Sandrine Testud(15) defeated Ai Sugiyama 6:7[5] 6:2 6:2. Another superb match, and probably one of the best matches of the tournament so far. Sandrine had 7 aces, 26 winners, and 11 unforced errors. Ai played a great match as well. Read the article here.

27/06/01 - Sandrine Testud(15) defeated Karina Habsudova 6:0 6:1. Once again, Sandrine played an excellent match. She had 4 aces, 15 winners, and only 4 unforced errors. Karina never had a break opportunity and Sandrine won in less than 40 minutes. Her next opponent will be much tougher, as she faces Ai Sugiyama.

25/06/01 - First round of Wimbledon, Sandrine Testud(15) defeated Rachel McQuillan 6:2 6:2. She played a near perfect match, serving 7 aces, 16 winners, and only 8 unforced errors. She is serving well. She never got broken in the match. She will play against Karina Habsudova in the next round.

22/06/01 - Sandrine Testud(2) defeated Louise Latimer 6:2 6:2. This win will give her more confidence as she heads for Wimbledon next week. Tomorrow, she will play against Ai Sugiyama(4) in the semifinals. The other semifinal features Magdalena Maleeva(1) vs. Daja Bedanova(3).

21/06/01 - I will be adding a picture section very soon!

20/06/01 - For Wimbledon, Sandrine is the #15th seed. She is against Rachel McQuillan in the first round. I will post more info later, after Sandrine has completed her tournament in Eastbourne.

18/06/01 - Anne Kremer defeated Sandrine Testud(5) 6:3 6:4. It is a disappointing loss for Sandrine. However, Anne is a great player and grass is her favorite surface. Sandrine has registered for the singles plate draw in Eastbourne. Basically, it is for players who lost in the first round in the main draw and want some extra practice on grass. Sandrine is the #2 seed and she received a bye. She is against the winner of either Latimer or Pullin.

17/06/01 - The draw is out for Eastbourne. Sandrine is the #5 seed, after Amelie Mauresmo withdrew citing fatigue. Here is Sandrine's quarter:

Sandrine Testud(5) vs. Anne Kremer
Elena Likhovtseva vs. Louise Latimer
Tamarine Tanasugarn vs. Jennifer Hopkins
bye vs. Nathalie Tauziat(2)

This is a very difficult draw for Sandrine. Anne is defending semifinalist, Elena is a very solid grass player, and Nathalie is one of the best grasscourt players right now. Sandrine will play on Tuesday.

14/06/01 - Here are the unofficial seeds for Eastbourne: (1)Lindsay Davenport, (2)Amelie Mauresmo, (3)Nathalie Tauziat, (4)Amanda Coetzer, (5)Magdalena Maleeva, (6)Sandrine Testud, (7)Silvia Farina Elia, (8)Meghann Shaughnessy.

11/06/01 - Sandrine has withdrawn from Tashkent. It is a smart move for her, since she is going to be really busy the next couple of weeks. She is scheduled to compete in Eastbourne next week, where at the moment she is the #7 seed. Wimbledon now has 32 seeds, so Sandrine is in no worries of not being seeded.

04/06/01 - Sandrine is scheduled to complete in Tashkent next week, then Eastbourne, then Wimbledon, and then Fed Cup. She is currently ranked #17 and she is #13 in the Race to the Chase.

02/06/01 - Martina Hingis(1) def. Sandrine Testud(16) 6:1 2:6 6:2. This match was completely lopsided. In the first set, Martina was leading 0:5, when an egg was thrown on the court. This must have been a wake up call, as Sandrine began to play more agressive and won the second set 6:2. In the third set, Sandrine got broken right away and Sandrine had 00-40 on Martina's serve. She was not able to convert and 0:2 difference was too much for Sandrine to catch up.

01/06/01 - Sandrine Testud(16) def. Elena Bovina 6:3 7:6[2]. This was a very tough match for Sandrine. In the first set, Sandrine was tied with Bovina 3:3, before a minor rain delay forced the players off the court for ten minutes. When they returned, Sandrine's experience allowed her to win the next three games relatively easily. In the second set, Elena broke right away and led 0:2. Sandrine continued to hold serve, but she could not break Bovina's serve until it was 4:5. After that, Sandrine finished off the match in a tiebreaker. Sandrine will face the #1 seed Martina in the next round.

31/05/01 - Sandrine Testud(16) def. Tatiana Poutchek 6:4 6:0. In the round of 64, Sandrine jumped to a 2:0 lead, then Tatiana caught up to 2:2. Sandrine won the next two games to leads 4:2, and then Tatiana caught right back at 4:4. Sandrine then won 8 consecutive games to win the match very easily. Sandrine is playing very aggressively, controlling her matches. Sandrine will play Elena Bovina in the next round. Here is a quote from Sandrine on her attitude towards this tournament:

French veteran Testud, who scored a rare win on Philippe Chatrier Court with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Tatiana Poutchek, said she going to kick back, relax and not worry about the pressure of playing in her home country this year. "I have no special objective this year. I want to enjoy myself on court because that has never been the case in the past. I reached the round of 16 once, but it always got very tense. This I decided I would be cool. After all, I've played 10 years. It's high time to do so."

29/05/01 - Sandrine Testud(16) def. Dawn Buth 6:1 6:1. Her first match at Roland Garros was a success. In the round of 128, Sandrine was just too good for Dawn. Her next opponent will be Tatiana Poutchek.

28/05/01 - Sandrine is in Martina's side of the draw. Originally, she was unseeded, however, with the withdrawal of Lindsay Davenport, Sandrine has been moved in the draw.

27/05/01 - Here are the seeds for the French Open:
1. Martina Hingis 2. Venus Williams 3. Jennifer Capriati 4. Amelie Mauresmo 5. Serena Williams 6. Elena Dementieva 7. Conchita Martinez 8. Nathalie Tauziat 9. Amanda Coetzer 10. Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario 11. Kim Clijsters 12. Magdalena Maleeva 13. Justine Henin 14. Jelena Dokic 15. Meghann Shaughnessy 16. Sandrine Testud

24/05/01 - Maria Jose Martinez def. Sandrine Testud(3) 5:7 6:3 6:4. This is a very disappointing lose for Sandrine. Maria Jose is a talented, young teenager from Spain. Sandrine just did not have the energy to finish the match off in the third set. Sandrine is now going to the French Open. Good luck Sandrine.

23/05/01 - Sandrine Testud(3) def. Julia Vakulenko 6:0 6:4. It was an easy match, as expected. Julia is ranked outside the top 200 and could not match Sandrine's power and consistency.

22/05/01 - Sandrine Testud(3) def. Gala Leon Garcia 2:6 6:3 6:0. That was a very good win for her, since Gala was the defending champion. Sandrine now faces Julia Vakulenko in the round of 16.

21/05/01 - Sandrine is now competing in Madrid, the last tournament before the French Open. She is seeded third, behind Monica Seles and Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario.

14/05/01 - Farina Elia def. Sandrine Testud(11) 6:1 1:6 6:3. A tough loss for Sandrine, since she will not be seeded for the French Open with this loss. However, she is still very high in the Race to the Chase and she is a top 16 player. She'll begin to improve in the rankings shortly, especially after the US Open.

12/05/01 - Farina Elia leads their head-to-head 2-1; however, Sandrine defeated her in the only clay match they had between each other. They play either on Monday or Tuesday.

12/05/01 - Sandrine is the #11 seed for Rome. She faces Silvia Farina Elia in the first round. This will be a very tough match. Gala Leon Garcia is also a threat in her section. She is in the same round of 16 section as Nathalie Tauziat, the 7th seed.

10/05/01 - Sandrine Testud lost to Jennifer Capriati 2:6 6:7[6]. The first set was dominated by Jennifer; however, in the second set, Sandrine was leading 5:3 and had a chance to even the match and force a third set. Unfortunately, Sandrine's unforced errors increased and Jennifer picked up her game. In the tiebreaker, Sandrine was always ahead and had a setpoint, before losing the match in a heartbreaker.

09/05/01 - Sandrine Testud def. Angeles Montolio 6:2 4:6 6:3. She did it. She got revenge for her lose to Angeles in Bol. It was a very tough match for both players, but Sandrine came out on top. She now faces the #3 seed, Jennifer Capriati, in the round of 16. Sandrine defeated Jennifer last year 6:3 6:4, but Jennifer is a new player this year. Good luck Sandrine.

08/05/01 - Sandrine Testud def. Marlene Weingartner 7:6[4] 6:2. It was a good match for Sandrine. She serve very well. Guess what. She plays against Angeles Montolio in the second round. Montolio defeated Kristina Brandi 7:6[3] 6:3 today also.

06/05/01 - Berlin has started. Sandrine is the #13 seed. She is in the same side of the draw as Jennifer Capriati, Angeles Montolio, and she faces Marlene Weingartner in the first round, again.

05/05/01 - Angeles Montolio def. Sandrine Testud 6:1 7:5. Sandrine did not have a good match. She was not patient enough and Angeles kept the ball in play. Congrats to Angeles for the win and too bad for Sandrine. Here is a quote from Sandrine:

"I didn't play well and I wasn't moving well either. With her game on clay, you need to go for it and I wasn't aggressive enough. I missed two easy points in the second set on break point and I shouldn't have. But she played well, better than me today . I still think that coming here is a good preparation for the bigger tournaments and now I have Berlin and Rome to think about before going to Paris."

04/05/01 - Sandrine Testud def. Marlene Weingartner 4:6 6:1 6:2. A report on the match can be found in the article section of this website. Here is a picture of Sandrine in action:

She is now scheduled to play against Angeles Montolio, a very tough clay court player. Angeles won her first tournament a month ago and is looking very good. Angeles dismissed the defending champion from last year in three sets as well. However, Sandrine has already defeated Angeles twice this year, but they have never met on clay. The semifinals look like this:
Kim Clijsters(1) vs. Mariana Diaz-Oliva
Angeles Montolio(3) vs. Sandrine Testud(2)

03/05/01 - Sandrine had to wait until Thursday to play her second round match, but the wait was worth while. Sandrine defeated Rita Kuti Kis 6:2 6:3. She had 20 winners, 15 unforced errors, 3 aces, 6 double faults, and 5 out of 8 points won in the net. She now faces Marlene Weingartner in the quarterfinals. Marlene is rising up in the rankings very quickly and has already defeated Lisa Raymond and Amanda Coetzer this year. This is how the quarterfinals look like:
Kim Clijsters(1) vs. Pavlina Nola
Mariana Diaz-Oliva vs. Anna Smashnova
Tina Pisnik vs. Angeles Montolio(3)
Marlene Weingartner(5) vs. Sandrine Testud(2)

3. Angeles Montolio
4. Silvija Talaja
5. Kristina Brandi
6. Cara Black
7. Meilen Tu
8. Ai Sugiyama

19/04/01 - Sandrine is currently #20 in the rankings and #14 in the Chase Championships. It is understandable that she is not in the top 16 at the moment, due to the fact that she was injured for the last few months last year. She is still scheduled to compete in Bol in two weeks time. I will update in a couple of days the likely seeds for the tournament. At the moment, it appears that Sandrine will be either the 3rd or the 4th seed.

Sandrine has had a long year already, competing in Auckland, Canberra, Melbourne, Tokyo, Paris, Doha, Dubai, Acapulco, Indian Wells, and then Key Biscayne. Her start to the year has been great. She is currently in the top ten in the Chase Championships. Her ranking is at #19, but it would be around #11 - #13 had she not gotten injured at the end of last year.

Enjoy the rest Sandrine. Your fans love you and we can't wait until you play your next match in three weeks. We are all very proud of you.

26/03/01 - Lindsay Davenport(2) def. Sandrine Testud(13) 6:3 6:1. Davenport played one of the best matches she has played all year, and even Sandrine played a good match. Lindsay was just too much for Sandrine.

19/03/01 - Sandrine Testud answered questions to fans and reporters Monday morning, at the Ericcson Open. She will most likely be the #13th seed; however, she may go higher with several withdrawals from players ranked higher than her. The tournament begins on Wednesday, but Sandrine gets a first round bye, therefore, she will most likely begin either Friday or Saturday.

12/03/01 - Lisa Raymond(19) def. Sandrine Testud(12) 6:7[7] 6:4 7:5. It was a very high class match. Both players were even throughout all three sets. Sandrine just had a bit of bad luck in the third, to narrowly lose the match. Sandrine's next tournament will be in Miami, the Ericcson Open where she is defending semifinalist.

09/03/01 - Sandrine Testud(12) def. Angeles Montolio 6:1 6:3. A very good, clean match for Sandrine. She had two aces in the match. She has obviously recovered from her colitis. Her next opponent will be Lisa Raymond, the 19th seed, in the round of 32. Sandrine has a 3-1 head-to-head record, but they haven't played each other in three years. Good luck to Sandrine in the round of 32.

10/01/01 - Sandrine Testud(4) def. Ai Sugiyama 7:6[8] 4:6 6:3. Sandrine came from 3:5 down in the first set to win it in an exciting and close tie-breaker.
