Dinwiddie High School presents Varsity Letters and end of season awards to recognize outstanding achievements by our athletes. Runners and parents need to understand up front that awards are for demonstrated performance and not for participation. Only 9th through 12th grade athletes are eligible for letters and the most valuable awards.
It is unusual for underclassmen to letter unless there is a shortage of personnel or the athlete is very good. Don't be discouraged if you don't earn a letter your first or even second year in the sport. Your efforts are certainly appreciated and contributed to the overall success of the team. Stick with the sport and in time you will earn your Varsity Letter.
To earn a varsity letter in Cross Country, athletes must meet the following requirements.
TEAM SPIRIT
Be a positive member of the team. This includes being on time for school and
all classes, attending all practices and meets unless excused by the head coach,
and by setting a good example for all team members. You must follow all VHSL,

sportsmanship.

who meet the above criteria and who lead their teams in scoring.
110-Percent Award
The 110-Percent Award is presented to the male and female runners, Varsity or
Junior Varsity, who display extraordinary effort or who overcome significant
obstacles to participate in the sport.
Most Improved
