Riding Journal

This is my Riding Journal, if you didnt get that from the title!
Its mostly just for me to talk about my progress, setbacks, challenges, victories
and just everything that i feel about my riding and where i'm going with it.
i'll try to make it as interesting as possible!

Well, this lesson, quite frankly..sucked! steele was a good boy on the
flat, nice and round and leg yieldy and stuff..but over fences ohh
mother..i totally FELL APART. i was all clenchy and gross, heels up
hands down, weight all on his neck, i also didnt seem to have
any control over my legs WHATSOEVER! spurs were quite the bad idea for
me on that day. to make matters worse, he wasnt listening to my
left leg AT ALL, so he was running out multiple times. and
i thought i was so much better than the other girl that rides with
me now, but haha NOT THAT DAY!!! it was sad, really. i went to
the sea fever show with steele and did so well and then BOOM
next week its all over. oh well i guess there's not really
a lot of use in complaining, i'll just have to get over
this and do better so i can kick ass at the sea
fever at the end of june. i hope it was just a one
time thing and i'll be back on track next week. NO! i know
i will be. i have my other lesson on wednesday, that one,
is usually really good so we'll see. i've also set a goal for
myself, 3 feet by the end of september. should be interesting to see
how close i get. especially since i'll be missing like 4 lessons in august.
going to spruce meadows this weekend and seeing all those amazing riders gave
me new inspiration, especially this crazy 14 year old who beat Jonathon
Millar, Michael Whitaker and Mario Deslauriers to win the Double Slalom..i was so
jealous!! some people! but no she was actually really good, i wish
i could ride like her. me and my friend jordan were like "wow
i feel insignificant!" haha..hence the goal setting i guess. well. i think
that's all for right now, check out my spruce pics..altho they turned
out blurry! arrgh damn camera. ttyl..

This lesson was a little better. Steele was good and i was stronger,
but this time i had a new problem. RELEASES! i feel like i'm giving
enough, but apparently i am "chintzy!" according to Tara haha..i need to
watch a video of myself i think..but the main problem is that when
i release as much as she tells me to, then i forget about
the rest of me and lose my balance! its quite the conundrum really. but
i feel tons better about this week than last week, so thats good i
guess. also, wednesday went really well, i got to ride steele which was a
rare occurence, since his half-leaser Caoimhe usually rides on that day.
he was really good and i was pretty good as well! i'm going
to another show on the 27th, me and my friend louise are the
only people going, which is gonna be lots of fun! i'm doing 2'0"
and 2'6" this time tho..ooh challenging! i'm soo pumped!!! anyways i'm tired so
this is the end of this.

Well, needless to say i havent used this journal in a LONG time..the show went well,
i got a 3rd and a 7th in the 2'6", a 6th in equitation, and in one of my
2'0" classes, and a 7th in my other 2'6" class. so it was an all right show. i didnt feel as good
about it as the last one but i felt proud of myself because i managed to place high in the 2'6"!
yay! haha but my lessons have been going really great, i rode a new horse the other day,
Sophie.she's this insane mare who is off the track so she can be
crazy to the jumps and RUNS after them. its lots of fun but you just have to show her with
half halts and she's just fine. yesterday i rode steele,
and he was SO good. i had a little trouble making a straight line
down the quarter line at a canter though, he kept changing leads on me, but i
figured out that bending him to the outside works! and after that it went really well.
the course was good and overall it was a good note to end off on since
i'm leaving him for two weeks :( its so sad..hopefully
i wont fall apart!! but anyways nothing HUGE to report, my next
show is at the end of September so lots of time for Steele's
mane to grow out again NOO haha.
anyways..thats all for now. see ya in 2 weeks!

Well the last show was MC and it was sadly the last show of the season, i shared Steeley with
Scott. I rode pretty well, did the 2'3" and 2'6", although
the judging was really biased and only one person
from JMS placed, which is a rarity!! The show was kind of a joke, dragged on FOREVER
and the judging wasnt fair, but hey what can u do??
we had tons of fun anyway, steele tried
to attack like 3 horses in the warmup ring, that was hilariousness..he's so grouchy.
last friday,he showed his evil side and bucked off a little girl..
what a brat!!!grr.i'm so glad he's never done that for me, he loves me!!haha,
not like i would let him get away with it anyway. friday's lesson was completely flat,
tara surprised me by giving me a dressage lesson, but flatwork
is so important, it was actually good. i felt i
learned a lot and steele was soo round and pretty! i'm still
having troubles getting him round in the canter but that will come with time i'm sure.
saturday was interesting, ginette's teaching style is so different from tara's,
i'm learning so much having two trainers!! i need to work on keeping my elbows relaxed,
not tensing up so much, but i felt that i improved a lot during the lesson
on saturday, it always runs long cuz ginette is such a
perfectionist! haha. gives me more for my money i guess. its gonna suck next year with
university and work and things...riding is gonna have to take a back burner..stupid parents
dont understand!! but tara says next year i'm gonna do B shows, so that'll
be fun!! stiffer competition and more expensive but it makes me feel a lot more talented!
if i can just organize my elbows and my legs etc etc..so much to think about.
i'm so glad steele is so good for me, i can learn so much more when
i dont have to worry about him being dumb all the time.
anyways, i'm basically rambling, i'll write another time.
