Dave Laurer's NMCA EZ Street 1974 442. The car has recently been featured in Hot Rod Magazine (December 2000). The class requires a cast steel cylinder head, flat tappet camshaft, cast intake (no sheet metal), one 4 barrel carb (no dominators), mufflers, full working lights, all steel body panels, full interior, DOT tires (max 11.5 inch footprint) and only allows one single plate of Nitrous Oxide (no foggers or multi-stage systems). The weight restriction is 8.5 pounds minimum per cube. The class is heads up on a 0.400 Pro tree ..... Very competitive. The car has a 10 point mild steel roll cage and a full interior. The hood is a fiberglass piece from US Body Source, and the front bumper is a glass piece from Showcars-Bodyparts. All the remaining pieces are stock steel. The rear suspension is a self built S&W 36" ladder bar setup with stock springs and HAL stocker star rear shocks. The front suspension is all stock control arms with Moroso trick springs and Competition Engineering mutli-rate shocks. I installed a Mustang II rack and pinion steering for weight reductions. The end weight is 3770 with driver. To date the Best ET and MPH is 9.18 @ 148 mph It originally came with a 455, but now it has a 442 ci NASCAR Olds small block. It has a bore of 4.250. The crank is a destroked 425 to 3.890 with the main journals cut down to 2.500 and finally nitrided. It uses a Howard aluminum connecting rod (6.125") with Custom Ross pistons. Speed Pro rings are used to seal the combustion gases. Final Compression ratio is 13.2:1. The heads are Cast Steel Battens with full race porting job. The cam is a Lunati solid lifter. Sorry I can not give out the specs on it. The intake is a Victor Jr. with some minor internal modifications. No external modification are allowed in the class. It is topped off with a standard Holley 850cfm carb with a NOS double cross nitrous injection plate. The solenoids are custom built, and sorry again I can not divulge the data on them. The ignition system is an MSD 7AL-2 with a variety of add ons including a 2-step, multistage retard box and custom built ignition retard timer. The exhaust system consists of self built custom 2 1/4" primary headers to a 4 inch collector followed by 4" piping to 4" Dynomax bullet mufflers. OK not exactly quiet, but it meets the rules..... The fuel system consists of a 10 gallon fuel cell, 2 Holley Volumax pumps and all 1/2" stainless braided lines. The trans is a self built T400 with a Hipster Brake, JW Ultra-Bell Bellhousing and all hardened internals. The converter is a 9" Competition Transmission piece. The rear end is a Chevy 12 Bolt with a Strange spool and 33 Strange spline axles. It uses a 4.11 Pro Gear gearset. The axle tubes are cold rolled steel and an Ultimate support brace is used to keep the unit from flexing. A set of S&W Pro Wheelie bars help keep the rear bumper from scraping the ground. The oiling system uses a Miloden 8 qt oil pan, Mellings Oil pump with the pressure relief blocked, and an external Steph's oil pressure regulator. The cooling system utilizes a Howe Aluminum radiator, Hayden electric 10" fan, aluminum water pump and an electric pump drive. The plans for this year include a Valasco 9325 crankshaft with a stroke of 3.750 yielding a final cubic inch of 426, lightened pistons and a set of GRP Aluminum rods. I am fabing a max effort oil pan at this point in time, The chassis will now be based around a 12 point 4130 roll cage. The ladder bar crossmemeber will be moved up such that the back end of the car can be lowered and maintain the correct instant center geometry. The floor pans are relocated upward to accommodate this change. The rear frame rails are moved inward and a set of mini tubs are installed to allow for better tire clearance with the rear end lowering. Also, a set of Koni Double Adjustable Coil-over shocks will be used in the rear suspension. A set of Wilwood rear disk brakes and a Stroud 14' parachute has been installed to help avoid the little mishap at Norwalk last year. The ignition system will be upgraded to a Programmable MSD Digital 7 box. The class weight rules have been changed a bit, and now the car needs to weigh a minimum of 3407 pounds. Therefore, there are a couple of other minor lightening activities going on right now. Check out Dave's website by Laurer Racing

Bill Travato's NMCA EZ Street 1978 Starfire. The engine is your typical SS/BS combo with a Nitrous grind cam. It starts off with an ultra rare Olds NASCAR block bored to 4.090" inches and a Moldex crank with 3.260" stroke which gives the engine 343 cubic inches. Batten heads and single 4 barrel intake, BG carb along with a NX Nitrous system top the engine off. Trans is a A-1 powerglide with 1.80 first gear and a A-1 8" inch 5500 stall converter. Reareng is a Ford 9" with 3.89 gears. If you are looking for Olds parts or a good machine shop, check out Bill's website Bill Trovato Racing
