These are my experiences, and please, read my last paragraph.
I do not want to be sued for slandering, so I just describe here what I experienced. I may have been a victim of misleading information.


I found the website bankdirect.com with really good rates through a banner. Their rates were like 5.25 on a moneymarket account with .. I think.. one or three withdrawals per month. I was tempted to send them $2000 to try it out. ($2000 was the minimum for this type of account.)

But before that, I did some background check.
And I found many, MANY STRANGE THINGS. I did this all about 3 months ago, so I hope that I write it 100% correct.

* I noticed that they have an 877 toll-free number, not an 800 number.
Made me slightly suspicious.

* on their web site they refer to Texas Capital Bank.
They say "We (BankDirect) are not FDIC insured, but we are a subsidiary of Texas Capital Bank".

* I sought on the WWW for webdirect.com and found NOTHING except a private homepage. Nothing that told me that this bank actually existed.
But it gets better.

* I sought the WWW for 'Texas Capital Bank'.
I found a few business documents (annual reports refering to them, and finally a telephone number).
I call that number.

* now hold yourself to your seat:
The lady at the phone (the Texas Capital Bank) tells me that Texas Capital recently was bought by another local bank, and she never had heard of such a BankDirect.
