Minsk, Belarus

The following are pictures of Max's hometown. Special thanks to Max for the first picture and descriptions and Tanya for providing the other photos. For more information about the city visit Lonely Planet.

minsk__1.jpg (161672 bytes) In this photo is an old building of an Institute of Sport, surrounded by major shopping centers of the capital.
minsk2.jpg (22516 bytes) This is the old town called "Troitskoe Predmestie". This part of the city survived the World War II bombing and without any additions has only been cosmetically fixed after the war. Now it is a very prestigious place of town to live in. Also a place for people to get out and have fun, full of bars and restuarants.
minsk4.jpg (40563 bytes) This is a memorial that was built recently for the victims in the war against Afganistan. The war lasted for a decade in the 1980's and many Belarus citizens took part in it.
minsk5.jpg (21831 bytes) This is the center of Minsk with business/commercial towers on the left and the Sports Palace on the right. Many sporting events, concerts and other special events are hosted there. It seats about 7,000 to 10,000 people.
minsk6.jpg (26413 bytes) This picture shows the city's newest National Christian/Orthodox church and one of the business districts.
minsk.jpg (22516 bytes) This is a picture of the Svisloch river with parks on both sides. It gets very pretty here in during the summer and everything thing turns green, like a botanical garden. People like spending their time off from work here.
