Jason Horosny scored 24 pts and Tyler Hooks had a double-double with 10 pts and 10 asts to lead Canyons to a 76-55 victory over Cuyamaca in the consolation game at The Clash at Canyons Saturday evening in Santa Clarita.
Canyons (1-1) started out hot, making its first 5 shots of the game, and led wire to wire. The Cougars led 13-2 after that initial hot start and by as many as 17 in the first half at 24-7 about eight minutes into the game.
Cuyamaca (0-2) cut the deficit to seven points late in the first half and trailed, 53-46, early in the second half before Canyons pulled away for good. The Cougars' 10-0 run that included a pair of baskets by Horosny made it 63-46, and Canyons led handily the rest of the way.
Horosny made 11 of 15 shots from the floor for his 24 pts and was named to the all-tournament team. Hooks had the game's only double-double and his 10 asts were easily game-high. PF Tikko Moore just missed a double-double with 14 pts and 8 rebs, and SF Victor Nwaba had 10 pts, 8 rebs, 4 asts and 3 steals despite some foul trouble. SF Alex Sanchez came off the bench for 13 pts, including 4 three-pointers.
For Cuyamaca, Ctr Jahzdion Taylor had 14 pts and a game-high 9 rebs and was named to the all-tournament team. PF Rodney Dantzler had 12 pts, 4 rebs and 3 steals.
