San Francisco 79, Sierra 73

Troy Thompson scored 22 pts and Julian Harrell added 16 and led a key second half run as #4 San Francisco outlasted #11 Sierra 79-73 in the third-place game of the Fresno City Tournament Sunday afternoon.

In a foul-filled game - there were 51 fouls called and 55 free throws attempted - San Francisco (4-2) went on the Harrell-led 8-0 run to break a 55-all tie, and led the rest of the way. Harrell scored the first two baskets of the run and assisted on the next one, feeding Jonathan Bennett for a score. Bennett added 2 free throwss to make it 63-55 with 6:42 left. A Thompson three-pointer pushed CCSF's lead to nine at 66-57 with just over 6 minutes to play.

Sierra (2-3) battled back to get within five at 72-67 after a steal by Glenn Lemon led to a lay-up by Cole Preston, but never got any closer. A basket by Jerrod Nodar off a pass from Thompson and a pair of free throws by Harrell sealed the win for the Rams, pushing the lead back to nine points at 76-67 in the final minute.

To start the game, CCSF jumped out to an early 17-8 lead after Thompson scored the team's first 7 points. But Sierra rallied quickly, tying the score at 21 and taking a 23-21 lead on a baseline jumper by Antonio Lewis with 7:15 left in the half.

San Francisco went back in front and led, 34-26, after a 4-point play by Nodar with 3:34 left in the first half. Sierra rallied to tie the score again at 36 with 22.8 seconds left in the half. Nodar scored off an inbounds play just before the halftime horn to give CCSF a 38-36 lead at the break.

CCSF pushed its lead back to seven points at 45-38 early in the second half, but once again Sierra battled back, tying the score at 55 on a steal and two free throws by Isaiah Pineiro with 8:23 left. However, then Harrell scored twice to key the 8-0 run and CCSF led the rest of the way.

Thompson led all scorers with his 22 pts, and he added 5 rebs and 2 asts. Harrell had 16 pts, 3 rebs and 4 asts, and was named to the all-tournament team. Nodar had 13 pts and 6 rebs. Speedy point guard Vincent Golson came off the bench for 9 pts and 6 asts, and reserve big man Josh Kahlon pulled down a game-high 10 rebs.

For Sierra, Jaquan Dupree scored a team-high 15 pts on 7-for-10 from the floor. Pineiro filled the stat sheet with 14 pts, 8 rebs, 2 asts, 3 blocks and 2 steals. Preston managed 10 pts and 3 asts despite missing virtually the entire half with foul trouble. Lemon had 10 pts and 7 rebs, and Isaiah Quintero came off the bench for 10 pts.
