PF Clint Bozner and SF DaSean Anderson both posted double-doubles as LA Trade Tech edged host Compton in a very entertaining SCC-North game Friday night.
Compton held the only double-digit lead of the game at 38-28 with about five minutes in the first half, but it didn't last long as Trade Tech (6-11, 1-2) went on a 14-4 run to tie the score at 42.
Compton (7-11, 0-3) scored the first two baskets of the second half to lead, 48-42. Trade Tech went in front, 52-51, when Anderson scored off an outlet pass from Ctr Josh Chatman, but then Compton went back in front and led, 59-56.
Then foul trouble became a factor as 6-foot PF Daraye Foote and 6-10 Ctr Christian Pumphrey each picked up his 4th foul. Trade Tech rallied to tie the score at 63 and took a 65-63 lead on a steal & lay-up by PG Jamie Trujeque
Compton tied the score one last time at 65, but then Trade Tech went on a 7-0 run to lead, 72-65. And during the run, Foote, Compton's leading scorer on the night, fouled out with 7:31 remaining. The Beavers also held a 77-71 lead after a basket by Bozner, and perhaps more importantly, Pumphrey, Compton's only player taller than 6-5, fouled out on the play for Compton.
Still, the Tartars stayed close, getting within four points several times. It was 81-77 with 1:50 left in the game.
But that was as close as Compton would get, and the Tartars had no choice but to foul as time wound down. PG Taylor Shipley made three of four free throws and PG Steven Archibald made a pair of free throws with 25.3 seconds left to clinch the win for Trade Tech.
Bozner led the way for Trade Tech with 19 pts, 17 rebs, 3 asts, 2 blocks and a steal despite getting roughed up several times by the Tartars. Anderson had 14 pts and 11 rebs. Trujeque had 9 pts, all in the second half, while Chatman had 8 pts, 9 rebs, and 3 asts. Ctr Len Springs had 8 pts, including a spectacular reverse dunk after a baseline drive in the first half, and 11 rebs. Overall, Trade Tech built a pivotal 72-45 rebounding advantage for the game.
For Compton, Foote was outstanding with 21 pts, 5 rebs, 4 asts and 2 blocked shots before foul trouble shut him down midway through the second half. PG Matthew Mosley had 17 pts, 8 asts and 3 steals. SG Jamell McMilan had 15 pts and PF Emmanuel Andino had 12.
