**If a deer' kicks' when shot, you more than likely hit a vital organ.. If it 'hunches', or looks unstable on its front legs,, it could be sign of a hit in the liver. To be safe, , wait a couple of hours for a gunshot and a few more hours for a bow. It probably won't take this long for the deer to expire but better to give it a little extra time than jump it out of a bed and chase it half the night !.

**When making deer blinds and stands, wear leather gloves instead of cotton ones. Human scent does not 'leak' through leather like it does cotton.

**Don't pay for expensive deer lures when sometimes simple 'ol vanilla extract may do the trick. They claim does especially like this. Spray lightly on a few surrounding branches 25-30 yards away from your stand .

**When trailing a wounded deer, air bubbles in the blood usually indicate a lung hit.

**Another tracking tip...If the drops of blood are few and far between, try putting some hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle and spraying the area. Watch for the foaming, it will indicate blood.

** In the wilds, a buck will follow a doe two or three days before mating, stay with her while receptive , and even possibly stay 2 or 3 days after her heat period has ended. This knowledge is important to the hunter, for sighting a doe, which is looking behind her alot, may be a clue that the more cautious buck is following.

**A deer's life and location is tied directly to it's food supply. If you find their food source, you increase you hunting success by 50%.

**In about 1 inch of snow, this is a very reliable buck track trait: he drags his hooves slightly while a doe places them more daintily and leaves the track itself without the drag marks.

**If you don't scout an area, you can't expect to consistently do as well as the hunter who works at it, who knows where he's going and what he is doing. Luck, of course, accounts for many kills. But you can't count on luck in hunting. A good hunter makes his own luck.

**You can not be a good hunter if you have a fear of the woods. No one likes to admit fear, but why do we see so many walking or driving wood roads and in the open clear cuts. To hunt effectively, you must conquer any fears like this. Normally, deer avoid roads and exposed areas. They have their own territory and it is usually in cover.

**Some hunters recommend eating apples during hunting to mask human breath.

** I will not attempt to tell you which is the best gun for deer. This is a personal choice. But I can venture safely to say which is the worst weapon.... THE BORROWED GUN!.....Know your gun before you hunt. It's operation should be second nature to you.

Removing Skunk Odor

To remove skunk odor, use the following recipe. Mix a couple bottles of hydrogen peroxide with 1/4 cup of baking soda and a few drops of liquid dish detergent. Wipe down any affected items and sponge bath your pets if they were a victim. This neutralizes the awful scent and it really works. I know... we had an unfortunate incident with a skunk and rottweiller. The skunk won!!
