Did Ya Know?????

That the Golden Eagle..........

THE EAGLE

The eagle is a magnificent bird. Who soars with graceful ease.
He's a symbol of our heritage. As he glides upon the breeze.
May we soar like eagles on the wings Of dreams composed of light.
Oh, Eagle in your splendor, May we follow you tonight!

The Golden Eagle[aquila chrysaeto] is often referred to as the "king of birds". This is partly due to the royal majestic appearance of their 'crown' of golden feathers on the back of their head.

The Golden Eagle's home nest generally measures 8-10 feet across, with the largest recorded being 17 feet across. The young eagle are minitures of their parents with the exception of a few white feathers and when full grown will have a wing span of around 6.5 feet

Of all large eagles, the golden is the bird of mountain ranges, while others prefer plains, swamplands and woodlands. They are superb fliers and can rise high into the air until all but visible to the naked eye. They cover vast distances at astonishing speeds searching for thier prey(which includes mammals and carrion)

Unknown to many is the fact that the golden has been trained for Falconry(aid in hunting) since prehistoric times. Some tribes trained these natural predators to assist them in hunting deer and wolves. Though not quite strong enough to kill a deer, it is more than capable of holding one until the trainer arrives to finish the kill. You should know however, that today, falconers rarely keep these powerful birds as they are very difficult to train.( Do not try this at home HA!)
