Silver Streaks 12s Bounce Back; Successfully Defend Jamboree Title

One year ago the Lady AZ Silver Streaks needed triple overtime to wrap up the Genies Jamboree championship – this year, not so much. A week after suffering their first 2004 defeat to an Arizona team -- to the Arizona Elite in the finals of the Duel in the Desert tournament -- the Silver Streaks bounced back in impressive fashion, punctuating matters with a solid 20-10 tournament championship victory over that same Elite squad. The Silver Streaks used a balanced scoring attack, led by Morgan Wohltman’s six points, and a stifling defense (no Elite player scored more than two points) to claim their second consecutive Jamboree title. The Streaks reached the finals by virtue of wins over the North Country Spirit (40-9) and Arizona Sting (37-19). The Elite had previously defeated the DFAC Falcons (27-17) and Arizona Lightning (18-16). The Lightning topped the Sting (22-21) in the third place game and the Arizona Thunder – Rooks squad defeated Thunder – Burke (23-19) for fourth place. The All-Tournament team as selected by the participating coaches consisted of Kelly Alston (Thunder – Burke), Kaela Oakes (Lightning), Courtney Killpack (Sting), DeShara Washington (Spirit), Lane Peters (Thunder – Rooks), Brittney Stacy (Silver Streaks), Veronica Rodriguez (Elite) and Natalie Omundson (Falcons).
