How the Team Started

Penang Forward Dragon Boat Team was formed in 1982 by a group of rowing enthusiasts. Currently there are about 45 members in the team which consist of working people and students. The crew regularly participate in the local races, national races, as well as international races. Penang Forward Dragon had consistently performed well over the years, obtaining a reputation as one of the most competitive dragon boat teams in Penang, Malaysia. The team has won more than twenty trophies in such events since 1982. In recognition of the team's successes, we are also the first club team in Penang to represent the Penang state of Malaysia, participating in Singapore International Dragon Boat Race in 1987. 

Dragon boat racing is a team sport! Everyone has the same vision and purpose - to make our boat the fastest, make it glide, and make it win. Friendship formed in this team enhances our tough training, encourages each other to be strong and do better. Furthermore with members coming from different lifestyles, team spirit is built not only by paddling but also sharing interests among each other.

How Does our Training Look Like

We meet every Saturday evening at Penang Youth Park for physical training and Sunday morning or afternoon at Penang Water Sports Center for paddling practice. Despite all the grumbling about aches and pains, everyone has a tough mental to be strong and maintain a good attendance for the training. As a positive return, we benefit by feeling stronger and fitter.

Last But Not Least...

Penang Forward Dragon Boat Team is proud to be one of the teams to participate in the Penang International Dragon Boat Festival every year. We always look forward to the challenge of a friendly competition, local or overseas races, that is bound to make dragon boating a memorable event.
