Gascoyne confident of strong
performances!
According
to latest reports, Mike Gascoyne is convinced that the Renault F1 team
will be up there winning races as soon as they secure a little more engine
power.
At this stage it is thought that the most powerful engine on the grid is
the BMW P83 that is used by the WilliamsF1 team. Renault's actual
potential is not exactly known however it is thought to be in the range of
830 HP. The French outfit is aiming to secure the world title by 2006 but
Gascoyne is confident that either Trulli or Alonso could be on that top
step of the podium a lot sooner than that.
"I think we can win races. The chassis is good enough to win races.
If we had the horsepower of the top three teams, we could definitely do
that,” Gascoyne told Autosport. “There are a couple of things in the
pipeline so in the next few races we should make progress. They've
improved the reliability, so if they can work on the power we should be
pretty competitive."
We did a report yesterday that states the French manufacturer are planning
on introducing a stronger lighter engine for their home GP event at Mangy
Cours circuit in July that should run at 900 HP. This is a real boost on
the one is use now that say Jarno Trulli finish fifth in the season
opening Australian Grand Prix with teammate Fernando Alonso finishing
seventh.
Coulthard wins down and under!
It
had been raining heavily here most of the day however it appears as if the
rain has eased off for the start of this highly anticipated event. Drivers
are on the grid and the track is dry in several places but scattered
showers are predicted for the rest of the afternoon. The national anthem
gets underway. Drivers are connected to the now compulsory HANS device and
prepare to begin this first race of the 2003 season. Full
