TOM PETTY CONCERT REVIEW
![]()
I had the honor of attending the Jackson Browne/Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers show last Tuesday with Monica. It was a hot, humid, rainy night and still, nearly a sold-out show.
I expected to find young people like myself at this concert. Instead, most of the audience was filled with 25 year old kids. Lots of cold beer being drank, lots of funny stuff being smoked.
Got there in time to hear Jackson Browne's Fast Times at Ridgemont High hit: She must be somebody's baby. After a few more songs, he ended with Runnin' on Empty. The rain helped keep our beers full and the crowd seemed to enjoy getting wet; especially the young ladies in white tops and no bras! With the crowd on its feet, Jackson came back out to check out the sites and sing Doctor my Eyes....
The rain soon stopped and at 8:30, Tom took the stage. He started with :Runnin' Down a Dream. On the lawn was a middle-aged, balding guy with no shirt on and a pretty nice spare tire around his waist. He was dancing around drunk and had absolutely no sense of beat. No, it wasn't me!
He played for two hours and then it was time for the encore. He led it off with Free Fallin'. This was definitely the crowd favorite for the night. He followed that up with "Everybody Must Get Stoned". We already were but it was wildly appreciated. He closed the night with "American Girl".
Tony, if you're reading this, the answer is "No". I yelled for it but the bastard still wouldn't play "Piano Man:!!!
