SITE NEWS: 8/12  Hello!!  Trying to get back into a normal flow with the site again.  I can now update it.  Anyway,  I have added our new columnist Jason.  He writes about the Richmond Braves and will continue to provide updates from the Braves Triple AAA team.  Look for his two latest columns farther down.  Remember to join the Braves News Network.

Game Update

The Braves lost their 5th straight game today as the Diamondbacks crushed the Braves 9-1.  This was a terrible game.  Greg Maddux didn't pitch terrible, but he did give up his first walk  in the last 72 and 1/3 innings.  The decision to intentionally walk Steve Finley was a call made by Bobby Cox.  But Maddux didn't care, he just wanted to pitch well and win the game.

Braves News and Updates

8/1--  A day after dealing for Rey Sanchez, the Braves unexpectedly released 2B Quilvio Veras.  Veras has been hurt for much of the last 2 years.  Also, with the emerging Marcus Giles, Veras days with the Braves were numbered.  The Braves now have a completely different infield from the the first of the year, with the exception of third baseman Chipper Jones.

7/30--  The Braves traded for SS Rey Sanchez from the Kansas City Royals.  The Braves sent right handed pitcher Brad Voyles and second baseman Alejandro Machado the Royals in exchange for Sanchez.  He is a free agent after the season, so this looks like a temporary fit until Raffy comes back next summer.

7/22--   Smoltz is Back!!!  Tonight the Smoltzie came in as the closer and set down the Expos three in a row.  John was throwing very hard, 96, and pitched very well. Bobby Cox was very impressed by his performance and said he was "nasty."  With the addition to Smoltz to the bullpen, the Braves are looking stronger with their pitching down the stretch.
