Testing 2! 2! 2 for 22!

Good evening cricket fans and welcome to the summary of what was a sensational game of cricket between top of the table Blackout and the highly rated group of young up and comers, Stumped. The match lived up to the hype that is associated with its show court scheduling.

The pre match build up did not bode well for a competitive game as Blackout captain Rob revealed a shock selection of only 6 players, stating that he preferred quality over quantity. Even so most observers thought it was a huge gamble. The Stumped captain thought so as he won the toss and elected to bat, obviously hoping to demoralize the undermanned blackout team by finding the gaps early.

In a sensational performance by all players the team fielded like demons. It was as if they had the lightning reflexes of a Bruce Lee movie. Snatching at the ball and throwing down the stumps with accuracy that this reporter has never before seen. The most unusual thing I saw was the opposition choice of bowlers to bowl extra overs. They were Rob (our fearless captain and owner of the most disorienting run up in the history of the game.) and Big Pete (our leading wicket taker). Even so the star performance in the field was Brian fielding at point when the ball was smashed at him. I'm sure I was seeing things but Brian appeared to blow himself up like the thunder god from the movie Big Trouble in Little China so the ball couldn't get past him and then refused to rub what became a bruise as big as China. A super effort that. The end result was after a fine fielding effort and disciplined bowling we restricted them to a mediocre 58.

The batting was begun again in fine form with the pairing of Tim and Paul coming up to the standard of Tims regular opening partner Col with a tally of 39. After that beginning even a poor start by Pete batting couldn't stop a respectable partnership of 22 between him and Brian. Rob and Dave amassed another 30 and it was all over bar the shouting. In a move that caused controversy the opposition chose Brian and Pete to bat again.

Both had a game immediately after this one and it appeared they had been paid by this other team to tire us out b4 that match. At the referees meeting after the match it was revealed that money had passed hands between the 2 captains before the change of inning. Even so they were made to regret their decision with Brian continuing great form hitting a beautiful 6 to add to his season tally on the way to amassing 32 runs for the partnership and a total of 123 for the match

I would have to rate this game as one of blackouts finest in recent times and I would give it a 4.5 out of 5 and man of the match a unanimous decision on points to Brian (if the bruise was on his head the decision would have been by knockout).

Memorable Moment

"Seeing Brian get smashed to bits (in the chest anyway) by a slogged ball towards his way. Good thing he moved when he did or he would have been having trouble with drinks after the game with the bruised lip he was sure to receive!" - Pete

Match Challenge

Unfortunately I have let the team down by registering one wicket against my name in the second batting session I had to face. My challenge was to not get out. That meant the whole game so technically the challenge has been unsuccessful. One lousy wicket of an ill struck hit down the right side and off the nets. Still I was lucky not to get out on a previous catch attempt and a third ball warning was issued during my first over. On the bright side I managed to notch up two reasonable sessions due to the enormous pressure placed on my shoulders with the challenge laid out!
