Berkeley High School Women's Rugby Club

Thank you for visiting our page at Angelfire. This season will be the second season we are playing in the Northern California High School Girls' League! This year we hope to include players from schools such as Piedmont High (again) Saint Mary's and Bishop O'Dowd. We encourage EVERYONE who is interested in rugby to come out, no experience nessescary. Players of all grades, sizes, and abilities are welcome and encouraged. Last year was a lot of fun and if you're interested in playing definately get into contact with us ASAP! We'll be updating this site with useful info often. Please come back and visit again!

Practice/Game Information

We have an awesome coaching staff returning from last year, two UC Berkeley students and players, All American Lindsay Forhan, and Cal Bears' Women's team co-captain Anne Yu-Wang. Coach MaKenna is in Japan, unfourtunately for us. Until February, we will practice Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:-6:00 at East Campus on the corner of Derby and Martin Luther King Jr Way. Starting mid-February we will begin practicing on our home field, Gabe Catalfo Field on 5 St. and Harrison St, off Gilman, 5:30-7:. We will pretty regularly have Saturday practices alongside the boy's team, at San Pablo park at 10 AM. Always call the hotline to make sure practice hasn't been cancelled. We will also host our matches at Gabe's field, it is full sized, and lighted, and this is very exciting because East Campus, as returning player will tell you, is niether of these things. We'll keep you posted.
IN ORDER TO PRACTICE you must have a medical form, a parental consent form, and official USA Rugby insurance, which costs ten dollars. We will hand out these forms at pre-season meetings.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE Here is the season's schedule. It has not been officially finalized,but it won't change too much. All games played at Berkeley will be played at our home field, Gabe Catalfo field, on Fifth St. off Harrison, in Berkeley. Begin asking friends and family for help with carpooling, as we will definitely need drivers out to our away games. Always check the hotline the day before, and the morning of games to make sure they have not been cancelled or rescheduled, or to get directions to the games.

Equiptment-wise, for Rugby it is mandatory that you have a mouthgaurd for all practices and games. You can purchase these for about 2 dollars at any sporting goods store, or you can get fancier ones from your dentist. You will also need cleats, soccer and softball cleats are fine.
